Bama fans - Question about Saban's first season
Tangential OT question for the fans of both programs:

Is it possible for Auburn and Bama to both actually be firing on all cylinders at the same time? Or does one have to be "down" for the other to succeed on a national scale?

Has happened on rare occasions. See 1971.

Yes.

When Tuberville was at Auburn, he recruited heavily in Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia.

It's definitely possible. The difficult part is maintaining momentum in the media.

While it's possible, recent history suggests it's improbable for more than a couple years at a time

I was pleasantly surprised by the way we started out and even though we lost the last 4 games, we were very competitive against LSU and I saw the ULM loss as the players giving up. I knew that a lot of the players didnt agree with Sabans system and I knew as soon as he could get his own players in there it would be a lot different.

I did not expect the 2008 to come out the way that it did but it did show me that there were a lot of great things coming Bama's way.

After the 2007 season, when we had zero players drafted for the first time in 40+ years - I knew those guys played over their heads. Sure, we had some slip ups, but we also play out of our minds in a few games and came up just short.

Well Alabama and Auburn alternated NCs a couple of years ago. They had back to back unbeaten seasons in the 90s, and the IB has matched year-end undefeated teams as least twice since the 70s, so its possible.

After losing the previous 4 games and with a first year coach? Yeah, it was some momentum to build on going into the 2008.

It was more than just the bowl game win. It was the seventh win that put us over .500 and to win the last game of the year does help team morale.

This is the Rebel fan's subtle way of saying he thinks the same pattern is about to happen at Ole Miss.

Two names - DJ Hall and Jimmy Johns.

Ringleaders of a fairly big group of guys who did not buy in AT ALL to Saban's way (way too used to being coddled) and did everything they could to start a mutiny. Saban was holding that season together the whole way with spit and baling wire - something that is just possible when you're winning.

The 40-34 OT loss to LSU is what blew the whole thing wide open. At that point there was nothing to do but get the season over and to usher the malcontents out the door.

Seems to have worked out pretty well.

Weak against the inside trap.

I personally didn't like it, but Kines made it work.

Reason I ask is that's what we are running now at the school I go too.

Like someone else said, weak against the inside trap but the option doesn't hurt it much.

41-34 in regulation...but yeah. When Arenas ran that punt back in the 4th to make it 34-27 Bama, that was the loudest I've ever heard BDS.

The following week vs. MSU, with the ball on the MSU 2 yard line right before the half, they were killed by a 100 yd INT for a TD...instead of going up 12-3 or 16-3 at halftime, they were down 10-9.
