think there's just a wee bit difference between last year's and this year's teams.
Our scrubs are arse-raping this guy

Refresh my memory, why on earth did the Cubs deal him?

Sure would, but I have little to no hope for that. Ibarra, juuuust maybe.

If Ibarra gets drafted ___th or higher, he goes. Below that, he stays.

Don't pay these silly herd-mentality welfare queens that pollute this website any mind.
The fact is that Hawthorne sucks dick at announcing and has done for some time, and it's exacerbated by the fact that he WAS once very good. It's just jarring to listen to him now.

Hadn't thought about this one in a long time. I was just a kid (other side of the river too) but I remember this dude's pic on the front page of the TT like it were yesterday. Just that dull, stoned-out caveman type of look, like he could have given a half a frick about anything.
What was that guy's story, anyway? Trailer-trash creep? Good family?

Normally I don't think anyone would be overjoyed at having to face pitchers like Rodon or Appel, but there's a serious dropoff in talent after those two.
None worry me all that much other than Florida State. They seem to be the team this year that on paper aren't anything special but somehow they just win and win and win.

Eades will be drafted in the first 2 rounds.
Ross will probably be drafted in the top 10 rounds as will Jacoby Jones.
I don't know that I would consider that "marginal" enough to return.
Agree that it depends on what your definition of "marginal" is. For me it'd be the size of the signing bonus, and I don't know exactly where it makes a big jump. If Ross goes in the 10th round and his signing bonus is (pulling this out of my arse) $100K and Eades goes, say, in the 3rd and gets $750K, what does he do? Especially if another year at LSU gives him a chance to hone his hitting skills in a much better environment? Say he comes back and hits .290 his senior year and gets drafted in the 2nd or 3rd with his awesome defensive/pitcher handling skills.
Wouldn't that be WAY worth it? And even if he doesn't improve, he's no worse off than before.

Something that doesn't get talked about much (another poster above alluded to part of it) is that maybe it's not so much how much fun the guys are having playing college ball, as how much fun they WON'T be having playing at the lowest levels of A ball.
Not that I played but a bud of mine from high school did, and I heard plenty about how it sucks. Crappy food, crappy facilities, crappy bus rides to one crappy town after another (all far away from home). The proverbial old man and his dog showing up at your games. Add to that you're making pretty much squat for money after your signing bonus, so if it's 6 of one and half dozen of the other, why the hell not stay for your senior year at LSU if you're kind of marginal at the time? If you're desperate for your signing bonus NOW then that's another thing, but if you're not and you come back another year and improve, well it's still right there waiting for you.
You eat better, you live better, you play in much better conditions, and I can guarantee you the poon in Burlington, IA or Pikeville, KY ain't what it is at LSU :dude:
