However, this was the president of the university's decision.

True. I read where Wake Forest, I think, invited their president to practice to hear from the players as they plead to continue.

There's another issue here that you failed to mention: the presidents of the schools are making these decisions. In most cases, the president is an academic who tolerates the athletic department as a necessary evil of a large university; they are not in favor of the emphasis and finances placed on the big sports of football and basketball. But with the dollars they bring in, from boosters and alumni, on top of the TV money and ticket sales, they accepted it. They also were envious that at the big time programs like most of the P5, the athletic department and the AD had as much or more clout as the president.

COVID has suddenly presented them with the opportunity to reverse years of growth of money and power in athletics and they are seizing it. They have a once in a century chance to emasculate the athletic department and put them in their place and by God, they are going to use it. We are fortunate at Alabama that Dr. Witt at least appears to embrace athletics and seems able to peacefully coexist with them. At worst, he knows where his bread and butter come from. That's not the case at most schools.

150k people are dead. Your dogma fails to acknowledge that there's a marked difference between dying WITH COVID and dying FROM COVID.

They're worlds apart.

Besides, there was some blue shill state administrator who gave a presser and straight up said that if someone died from falling off a roof, and tested positive for COVID, they would be included in the COVID fatalities.

If you believe that line of thinking, enjoy your embraced intellectual dishonesty. There's no helping you, in that case.

frick the PAC, but the Big 10 players wanting to play need to enter the transfer portals in mass to all SEC, Big 10 and ACC schools...

I know they won't be able to play this year but those Big 10 schools fricked you, might as well frick them back by transferring...

Many power 5 presidents in the Big 10 will lose their jobs if the ACC, SEC and Big 12 play. We are about to see some Power 5 programs drop off a cliff.

^^^ This.

Also they are using covid as cover for punting on the player compensation issue. If they take out athletics at the knees this year maybe they wont have to make a decision on paying players.

One topic that's come up with a number of P5 administrators I've talked to this morning is how hard it's going to be for admins to answer players' questions about what's next. D-I Council is set to meet Wednesday to look at topics like extending eligibility clock, etc.

But the question is had he not had COVID-19, would he have fallen off the roof? So could hypothetically be a COVID-19 induced roof fall.

Pac 12 should lose their P5 status if they don't play this season and other conferences do. They're already the worst P5 by a huge margin and hardly better than AAC or MWC. Big 10 can probably recover, but this would be a fatal blow for the Pac 12

2 years ago if the same thing happened, but it was the flu this person had, would they put death by flu on the death certificate or death from fall from roof?

You know the answer...

This goes to a point I've been making for a while: Among all the conflicting interests, who should have the power to choose whether to play? I say, the players. Why is it controversial to respect the choice of players/parents? There are risks in playing, and in not playing.

What is the financial results for the college towns? I heard on a podcast someone say it would be catastrophic for Tuscaloosa. I can't imagine it being much better anywhere else.

It will destroy small college towns like starkville, oxford, Athens, etc they rely solely on the college students and sports crowds to keep businesses open. Larger SEC college cities like Baton Rouge, Nashville, etc will be fine because they have the local population to support it

Power 5 AD made it clear: doesn’t mean SEC, ACC and Big 12 are playing, just means they’re not giving in just yet. They’re continuing to move forward.

LAWYERS will dictate what they do.

If the Big Ten and Pac-12 decide to cancel fall sports, they should also cancel all in-person classes for the remainder of the year as well. Because canceling football due to liability while also allowing school to continue unabated is the very height of hypocrisy.

I'd say the height of hypocrisy is all these things plus continuing to charge full tuition, which you can bet your arse they will do.
