Sorry to hear that! I loved watching that eagle fly before the games. Hope you guys train another one

We gotta get a new eagle in the bullpen, one more trip into the press box glass by spirit and AU is outta options.

This is the era of artificial intelligence. Why use a real eagle, susceptible to disease and age, when you can fashion a robotic bird capable of negotiating a poop-free swoop over Jordan-Hare with compelling sweep and grace?

We did use a drone for a pregame event last year.

Did they at least dress it up as an eagle?

Yeah, it's the same one. It didn't really go far out of the stadium, he was just circling around so long and woulndt land and one of the circles kind of went way out past the stadium. probably the longest "Waaaaaaaaaa" cheer ever in JHS

As much as I have teased Auburn fans and friends over the decades about their team, this Bama fan has always secretly admired their tradition with eagles soaring inside their stadium. Very unique. I also got to know their former long time trainer/falconer, Joe Shellnutt, who was good friends with an Auburn friend of mine who is a falconer in Barbour County. Shellnutt was the falconer who had his eagle put on a dislay at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Shellnutt had a falling out with one of the Auburn professors in charge of the raptor program...I think the professor's name was Dr. Boosinger at the time. Several of the raptors died in short period of time on a runaway disease, and a lot of finger pointing and accusations, etc.

Having been in War Memorial for a game and one of the eagles fly directly over me, it is a pretty special moment to witness. Football, Auburn, or not, it's not every day that a magnificent and huge bird of prey, and the symbol of freedom, comes soaring overhead close enough to see his eyes blink. Good to know the tradition won't die at Auburn and another eagle is ready to go. I just wish the leadership at LSU would remember our traditions and get us another damn tiger, one that's not a pussy so we can see him on the field too.

The eagle must be ready to move to the East too.

We have an entire world class raptor center. Surely there's another eagle trained to fly around the stadium that just hasn't seen gameday action yet.

Auburn has had seven numbered "War Eagle" birds, but the first of these only appeared in a legend about the history of the phrase "War Eagle".

Nova, the bird retiring, was War Eagle VII, but was the 6th official mascot named War Eagle.

There's been other eagles, like Spirit the Bald Eagle who will take over gameday flights this season, that have made gameday flights but I'm not sure exactly how many of those there has been.

Every official War Eagle mascot so far has been a Golden Eagle so I assume Spirit the Bald Eagle will just be an interim for this season until we train another Golden to take over as the official War Eagle.

Spirit is just empowered. Telling you the bird knows he/she is a Bald Eagle and can do whatever the hell it wants. None of us can do a thing.
