Auburn's 1958 "national championship" is from counting up votes from every week's AP Poll.

1958 Auburn selected by the Montgomery Full-Season Championship.
Claimed by Auburn in 2025.

Auburn can claim it all it wants, but doesn't mean it's legit. LSU is hands down the much more impressive team and national champion in 1958.

LSU won the NC in 1958, not Auburn.

Glad Auburn is on your mind.

Last year Auburn got meth cranked and claimed like 7 new national titles. I wouldn't put much stock into any of it.

I can’t imagine your football team being so bad that you need to make up “National Titles” to try and seem relevant

Reining national champs, then went undefeated? Sounds like back to back national championshps

Sounds like you have no clue how national championships are actually determined.
LSU finished #1.
Auburn finished #4.
That's what is factually correct.

Weirdly aggressive replies from LSU fans here...
The info I posted proves that Auburn's claim to 1958 is possibly the single worst national championship claim of all time.

They were on a bowl ban too. Just like 1957 and 1993.
Bama and UGA fans have no room to talk though when it comes to retro claiming.

Also, are LSU fans not aware that Iowa has also claimed 1958 for a long time now?

Iowa has the Grantland Rice Award.

Also the basis for 1960 Ole Miss and 1961 Ohio State.

Auburn was banned from post-season play in 1957 for paying prospective recruits, and they didn't play a post-season game in 1958 either. In 1958 LSU not only went undefeated, they also played in a bowl game and won.
Always weird when the "it doesn't count if you lost your bowl game" crowd gets REALLY quiet when saying the same thing about teams that either refused to play in bowl games or were straight up banned from playing in them.

“We retroclaim championships like Alabama did. And we are proud of it.”
