Why can't people just be happy with the accomplishments of their team instead of trying to diminish the loftier accomplishments of a more successful rival? It denotes envy.

I guess USC cheated, OU lost, and that leaves Utah and Auburn. Nobody owns 2004 championship(technically USC owns it because AP doesn't take away titles, but still don't deserve it), so I guess the writers feels AU should get it instead of nobody.
Yup.
Personally, I will go with 5 if I am being honest.
1913, 1983, 2004 were all legit IMO and no other team in the country has or had a stronger claim to the MNC than AU in those years.
1958 we had a tie and LSU did not. 1993 we could not play in a bowl game and FSU was probably the better team that year anyway.

How is 2004 a slam dunk without being awarded an AP or BCS championship? Regardless of how must of us feel Auburn should have had an opportunity, the fact remains that they didn't get it.
I want to puke every time I hear about the Barners trying to claim 2004. The fact is, if they would have played ANY Div 1 team instead of the Citadel that year, their computer strength of schedule would have put them past Oklahoma to get to the BCS championship game. That's a stone cold mathematical fact.
So quit whining about 2004. You did it to yourselves.

The best thing about that article is that it exemplifies the little brother syndrome that the Auburn fan base denies.
Congratulations
This.
I love it.

The 1908, 1910, 1913, and 1914 Auburn teams under Coach Donahue were all named “Champions of the South”

Auburn got beat by 2 touchdowns at home by Texas. There are certainly a couple of teams who have just as much a claim as Auburn.

However we STILL played a tougher schedule than both OSU and USC. And we did have a D1 team scheduled, Bowling Green, who backed out right before the season started, forcing us to pick up the Citadel through no fault of our own.
So, as usual, your argument is retarded so move along lil gump.

So losing at home disqualifies championship claims. hmmm interdasting

Good team... but "meh" when trying to say that no other team has a stronger claim.

I don't understand how an auburn fan can claim 2004 and then call into question any of Alabama's titles.
In 2004, we had the BCS. You can certainly question the fact that auburn did not play in the BCS title game, but how do you call them champions? There were many, many years where a team had a strong case for being the champions and had the same record as the team that was named champions, but the argument there is whether you had the best team, not whether you were the national champions.
I'm just baffled by the lack of logic. You want to hold Alabama's title claims to a standard of "indisputable", regardless of which legitimate poll named us champs, but in the case of auburn your standard seems to be "whenever we feel we were the best team". Don't you even want to LOOK like you're consistent?

And Miami got beat worse by a team AU beat AND played a MUCH MUCH weaker schedule.
So, rule Miami out as being as deserving as AU in 1983.

Only when the team isn't awarded a major poll championship and the fans try to claim it over the team who actually was.
Yes, I'm well aware that Alabama's 1941 claim falls into that category.
