Vitello had just completed his 4th season as a HC and made his first trip to Omaha, where he went 2&Q. Woodward was not going to offer someone with his amount of experience at the time. It's not his MO. Whether we should have offered or Vitello would have accepted the offer are subject to debate, but we did not offer him.

I don't blame them. You've gotta make that call and make him say no.
I'm thankful he's our guy

Saban came from LSU. Stop. No one thinks that.
He went from LSU to Miami to Alabama. A&M fans screamed this for days after the Schloss hire.

Only a moron wouldn’t want Vitello. I haven’t made it a secret I wanted his top assistant Elander. Vitello is smart to stay in Knoxville with what he’s built

How much you want to bet he doesn’t end his career at Tennessee? Ban bet?
He has all the power over baseball at Tennessee, even to the point he is helping design the baseball stadium. Tennessee has all the resources any one has and is now willing to spend the money to stay up to date in baseball facilities. He has no reason to go anywhere else when he has built a powerhouse in Knoxville. Arkansas will be added to the list of schools next that’s he’s turned down to stay in Knoxville. Vitello will be the highest paid coach in baseball when his contract is extended

Sure. And the hitting coach was A&M’s first choice.
He was not. We made major pushes to land Vitello or O'Connor. We couldn't pry them away with with the timing of it all. If you believe the Rivals reports (not sure I do) that TV would come, but backed out last night. I am happy we didn't settle for a good coach with a known ceiling. We took a risk with an unknown.

Wow - Vitello contacted Laviolette? I wish our coach would do that as well.

Laviolette is coming to Knoxville. Vitello gets who he wants and then leaves the rest for the everyone else to fight over

Who says he hasn't?

Exactly. Can’t be scared to offer.
Vitello seems happy where he is. And I’m glad to see he has become more likeable, while still winning. Good for y’all.

LSU never gets turned down. They hire their first choice every time.

He wasn't in 2021 though, which is when LSU made their hire...

We have just as many championships with the coach we hired. You sound dumb.

Lsu went after Coach V too before settling on little Johnson.

Aren't you supposed to be on the way to 30A right now?

Correct. And it hurts their ego so bad.

Vitello himself said that LSU didn't contact him.
I don't get this need by Tennessee fans for LSU to have offered Vitello, it's been 3 years now.

I’m surprised A&M didn’t try to lure Jay Johnson. They love being turned down by LSU coaches.

They wanted to go the LSU path and get turned down by a Tennessee coach.
