I was thinking that some new religious figure might come about in the future and will replace Jesus as the central religious figure in the West.
Then the 2000s will refer to the period 2000-2099 years after the new religious figure was born.
Then aTm can give out the trophy citing the 2000s to a different guy named Jimbo Fisher.

Actually, the trophy would need an extra dash in order to be given out in the 20,000s. The 2 dashes imply the year is 4 digits long, and the 20,000s is 5 digits.
My suggestion that the trophy could be saved until 2000-2099 years after the birth of the new Jesus figure does work, though.

Next millennium is 3000 not 22. That would be 22nd century which what I think he meant.

That's a pretty aggressive time line. I would have thought they'd play it safe and go with 2--- to give them an extra 900 years.
