I figure you've got a newly motivated Calipari...perhaps even pissed.
Lots more NIL money than he ever had at UK....
Its not like Arkansas is a basketball nobody. Certainly a high second tier program historically. Sutton, Richardson and Musselman all had good success. Better than average facilities and crazy fans.
Let's see what happens. Who wants to come to Fayetteville and play?

It's hard to explain, probably only you'll be somebody that might get it...yet, UK has all the lights, blue blood stuff. Sometimes it's harder to win big at those places for some coaches...for whatever reason..get a little of that 10 year pressure off their shoulder at new place.(Arkansas support, etc..right up there with UK..just talking Nat'l Media blueblood)..might just do the trick...knee jerk reaction of last night.. then..compared to who else you can...ehh, take a chance
Great post.
Even stan heath took us to the ncaat.

This guy went missing after his last post around 11:30 or so. Hope he didn't drink the Jim Jones kool-aid hoping to hitch a ride with the space aliens during the eclipse.

Arkansas fans keep saying this, but it was never the issue. Not at KY with Cal and not at Arky with Muss.
Even with a minor upgrade in roster, there’s literally no recent evidence that Cal is going to win conference championships or make deep March runs with top talent.
Maybe he upgrades assistants or maybe he starts working harder, but Cal’s problems were never roster based. Oats would have made at least 2-3 E8s and 1-2 Final 4 runs with Cal’s rosters in the past 5 seasons (and probably 5-6 SECC/SECT). The jury is out on what Cal will do at Arky, but recent evidence suggests he’ll flame out most years and now KY gets a free coaching upgrade.
Muss at Arky > Cal at KY (last 5 years)
Cal at Arky < new coach at KY
It was a panic hire that they are HOPING works out.

Even if Cal continues performing as he has, the hire is still a grand slam. He keeps us in the national conversation every year, with top notch recruits and butts in seats funding renovations. There were 1000 scenarios that could have played out and this is in the top 1% of those, we good.

I just don’t get wanting to be in the national conversation for being one of the largest upsets in the tournament 2 out of the last 4 years. Losing to 14 & 15 seeds is embarrassing IMO. Hope Oats never gets that attention or national recognition (edited: well, not while at Bama at least).

Don't forget Francis Schmidt.
113-22 in six seasons and a 83.7 percent winning percentage.

He also got a commitment of 5-6 mil for NIL.
Minimum. That Tyson money is gonna be flowing. I'll bet Cal's smooth talking self will figure out a way to get WalMart money flowing.
Tyson done chicken dicked you guys.

In 15 seasons at Kentucky...
1 National Championship
2 National Title Games
4 Final Fours
7 Elite Eights
8 Sweet Sixteens
10 Round of 32
12 NCAA Tournaments
6 SEC Championships
6 SEC Tournament Championships
Sure he is 1-3 in his last 4 NCAAt games, but to say he completely failed while at Kentucky would not be accurate. His resume the last 15 years would make 95% of college programs very happy.
His Kentucky years need to be split into two segments: before Wisconsin and after Wisconsin. They were never the same program after losing that 2015 Final Four game.

so many are missing the point about this hire:
it allowed the right money to be appeased and kick the NIL up to top 10 level.
that would not have happened with tPear or some of the other names.
this is about changing the NIL game and it HAS changed for the better.

I get that, but what happens to the NIL game when he loses to 14 & 15 seeds? What happens to that NIL game for the next coach when 5-6 MIL couldn’t get it done with a HOF coach? Seems like a big gamble, but I guess maybe it’s a better gamble than small NIL but better coach.

yeah, it's not a bad question. you would just have to be a razorback fan and feel the pain. Muss had it rolling but got crosswise with the money and was looking for the door.
when the big money is not on board, doesn't matter who is coach.
the Cal hiring is getting people on the same page and strengthening the brand so the next hire will be a home run.
