How much of a gamer is Max? Is he going to stand strong and deliver the ball downfield repeatedly in the face of pressure? Or is he going to get happy feet and wilt? Would you like to hang your team’s chances of winning on Max rising to that sort of occasion, the guy who was the backup two weeks ago?
Max has no problem throwing under pressure, he was being hit as he delivered the kill shot to A&M last year.
His pocket presence sucks though.

During the second half Arkansas was running the clock not trying to score.

I mean, Rattler threw for nearly 400 yards vs Arkansas and we’ve seen how shite he’s played this year. So, why not?

Slusher is back which will have an outsized effect on our secondary. Not as much as Catalon, but still.
Another thing is that most of our yards come from missed tackle YAC. Tackling is one of the easiest things to clean up.
That said, the secondary is still arse compared to nearly every other unit in the SEC.

Tackling is an issue for the secondary. Hand tackling is bad and a lot of whiffs from over pursuing on plays.

If Miami could average 5 yards a carry on A&M, I think the Hogs can better that. Control the line of scrimmage, grind out long drives, something A&M can't seem to do. We'll control the game. Won't matter how shitty our secondary is.

Remains to be seen. Johnson hasn’t proven that at A&M yet. But he does have young talent available on the outside.
Apparently the Arky pass rush is ELITE according to some hog posters here. I just didn’t see that stopping Missouri State last week.
Jimbo’s playcalling will be under a lot of pressure if he doesn’t take advantage.

Plus we've played a much tougher schedule.
I wouldn't necessarily say that. Cincy is not the team they were a year ago. New QB, OC, Freeman gone. Miami is probably comparable to them.
USCe's only win is over 0-4 GA St. App St may be better than USCe.
Your FCS team was MO St which is a good team, but SHSU was a top FCS team too.
I still think Arkansas wins because they have a better offense, but it's still too early in the season to tell who the better teams are in CFB outside a few of the elite ones.

If Arkansas scores first then it is likely they win the game because they can eat up clock and score on time consuming possessions.
This is the advantage of a run oriented offenses as it puts pressure on the opposing offense to score but if they turn the ball over then it is pretty much pass on every play to get back into the game.

aTm offense has sucked no matter who they face, this leads me to think the quality of opponents doesn’t matter, and that Jimbo’s 2005 offense is the issue.

I mean, we had 8 sacks...
The game would've been a bit different if we didn't turn the ball over 3 times, which is uncharacteristic of us. 1 fumble into the endzone and another in the red zone.
Also held them to 52 yards rushing. Our problem last week wasn't pass rush, it was missed tackles.

We threw for 360 on SHsU - I would say having the last ranked FBs rated passing D should be equivalent

Is A&M OL the equivalent of Missouri State’s?

Arkansas was in control of the game from bell to bell. No doubt. But you guys are completely misremembering the game. It was 21-16 going into the 4th QT and you’re starters weren’t pulled until when? If at all. The whole “we weren’t really trying the last 15-30 minutes of the game” is just not accurate.
377 yards passing against a guy that currently has 2 TDs and 5 INTs isn’t a good sign no matter how you slice it.
Other teams that kick the shite out of us and do actually pull up in the 4th still don’t give up that kind of yardage.
ETA: this isn’t some shite on Arkansas post or attempt to agitate. I had a good time in Fayetteville and I’ve never had so many hosting fans come up and say welcome.
I’ve just seen this story before when a crap SC team exploits a weakness in another team but is dismissed as “garbage time” stats that didn’t matter because they beat SC badly on the scoreboard. Then other, better teams exploit that same weakness but actually have the capacity to win.

I have no doubt that Ainias, Stewart, and Marshall can absolutely torch Arky's DBs. The problem is that our OL might not be able to keep Max upright long enough to get the ball to them.

I don't think our secondary is quite as bad as some make it out to be. The teams we've played have had to pass it a lot late and some key injuries hurt our depth and our safeties got tired in the 4th. I trust this staff to get things turned around. I heard Pittman say in a press conference this week that they're considering going back to the umbrella defense of the last couple years if they have to.
