A leech program? Please.
If UAB left the University system, the University’s entire GPA and anything else measuring intelligence would plummet.

It's more institutional than individual fans who don't like UAB. A lot of Alabama folks, myself included, have done postgrad work at UAB, especially in medicine. No hate involved. I have always wished we would play UAB and South Alabama in football. There just isn't a downside to it, those programs (Troy too) aren't going to challenge Bama in football. There would be so much more interest in those games instead of Chattanooga, New Mexico, or whomever.

I pulled for them today. It’s my home city and my oldest daughter ran track/cross country for the Blazers (even though the head coach that recruited her left for U Penn after her freshman year).

I even have “UAB Dad” t-shirt.

They did manage to kill the UAB football program when they became a threat. They were revived but not the same.

Not a conundrum. I was absolutely pulling for UAB.

I have a degree from UAB, so I rooted for them. I have a degree from Samford, so I rooted for them, too.

Huntsville's entire intelligence and attractiveness quotient would increase dramatically if all the toothless Auburn supporters would GTFO

“A lot of Alabama fans have a weird hatred for UAB. “

Other way around. Most Bama fans I know, and it’s thousands, couldn’t care less about UAB.

Wrong. Huntsville and Madison’s primary taxpayers would disappear.

Yes there is, especially for UAB. Programs like UAB need high dollar payouts for "buy games." You think the UA system would pay UAB to travel to BDS to play Bama? No chance.

From the UA perspective, instead of a game against a team that knows they're going to lose you get a team full of kids who mostly grew up in Alabama and believe they can play at Bama and come in with a chip on their shoulder. It's like playing Auburn.

Basically, folks like st.john wanted UAB to be like John Hopkins, which I agree with.
