Auburn only lost more than 2 games in a season three times during that time frame, including the last season.

You're DAMN right it would! If you have a 50/50 crowd, there's no reason to assume an advantage. That's just a crybaby mentality.

crowds don't play the game.

I say we play every IB going forward at Jordan-Hare. We will split the tix 50/50. Call your people at bama and get that done.

ETA why do you think bama fought so hard to keep the IB in B'ham?

Throw out records in iron bowl and egg bowl etc
Bama has had way more talent but doesn’t matter in that game

I remember. Those were some fun games to attend as a child.
The atmosphere was electric!...and there was always a bunch of arse whippings administered after the game.

You really are a simpleton.
Why would nearly 50,000 people have to travel to Auburn, OR Tuscaloosa for that fact, every year for a conference game?
Powerful B'ham alumni, and the fact that Legion Field was much bigger than Denny Stadium was the reason that Alabama played Auburn AND many of their bigger games in B'ham...it's called $$$$$$ and when Alabama was the designated home team, that was significant.

but you didn't answer a simple question.......

Auburn is the home team every other year...and Auburn said you can play at Legion Field every other year and at Jordan-Hare when Auburn was the home team............yet bama wanted to force those IB's be played in B'ham also. Was it because they knew Legion Field was not a true "neutral" site?

ETA There is a reason bama wanted every IB to be played at Legion Field...........and it didn't have a thing to do with money.

Yes, but Auburn was not a dominate force at that time either.

During the time you are talking about 23-47, AU had 7 losing seasons. Most in the late 20s and early 30s. They were undefeated in 32 and lost 2 games each season in 35-37. Again, they had some bad years, but they were more than competitive the rest of the time.

It's a great rivalry for that very reason. You toss the records out the window in a game like that. Even though we beat their arse more often, the same holds try for UK-UofL basketball. Just all out grind it out grudge match games.

Auburn has had some insane luck in the series.

72- Auburn only scores TD on blocked punts

82- Several Bama turnovers keeps Auburn in the game

95- Bama won this game, refs screwed over Bama

02- Bama's head coach has already decided to leave the program and doesn't prepare the team for the final two games of the year.

10- Auburn has about 15 lucky bounces go their way to pull out a 1 point win

13- Bama misses 4 or 5 field goals and leaves a receiver wide open with just seconds left for Auburn to tie the game. Then Auburn wins the game on a missed field goal return

19- Two pick sixes, included one that bounces off a Bama player and 3 points given to Auburn by the refs, gives Auburn a 3 point win

Also, had Bama played Auburn in the 20s, 30s and all of the 40s, Bama would have a sizable series lead.

Son, you need to do some reading and talking to old folks (like myself) before you make yourself look bad.
The most powerful portion of the Alumni Assn. AND the BoT were "Birmingham" people. They rightfully pointed out that Tuscaloosa didn't have the stadium, nor the commercial infrastructure to adequately service events of that magnitude, so the only reasonable solution was to play in B'ham...and I can't honestly say they were wrong.
Eventually the stadium was greatly enlarged and sufficient hotel/motel, along with restaurant accommodations caught up, but it was, and always will be about the money!

I will give Auburn credit where credit is due. Since Saban got to Bama, Auburn has had the better team on the field twice in my opinion, 07 and 10, and in 10 they probablly did not have more talent top to bottom, but Cam was the great equalizer. In 13, and 17, and 19, Alabama was better and Auburn won, and when teams beat teams that are better than themselves that team deserves alot of credit, again my opinion.

This is generally my opinion too. There were circumstance in the 2017 and 2019 games with injuries just reaching a breaking point but I think Alabama S&C approach shift since 2019 is indicative that Saban thought his program was exacerbating injury problems. If your coach implicitly admits there was an S&C failure in the program over the last half decade then I think you gotta say they just weren’t putting themselves in position to win a tough road game at the end of the season. I’m interested to see if Alabama can stay fresher during the entire season as they did in 2020 and not see a precipitous decline in explosiveness and availability as seen from 2016 through 2019. That may be a key in Saban running off another 5 year push before retiring.

Auburn was ahead before Bear showed up. Bama has had a couple of great coaches and some deep support. When they don't have great coaches or their President decides to emphasize academics over football it can go badly on the football field quickly. Post Saban will be interesting to watch as an outsider.

Most Alabama fans don’t realize (or choose to ignore) that Auburn has won 10 of 15 Iron Bowls in Jordan-Hare. Many of those AU wins have come against undefeated (or highly ranked) Alabama teams.

Is there another stadium that Alabama visits on a regular basis that has held the Tide to a 33% success rate?
