Matt Jones would have won the Heisman with Gus coaching him
Guess it depends on what position Gus had him in...
And if Gus already had a starter. Ole Gustavo plays favorites over talent.

You'd see him out there puttering along and realize there aren't any defenders in the picture because they are 20 yards behind him and losing ground on every stride.
As an opposing fan it would piss me off to no end too.

Dude ran like a giraffe on cocaine.

Actual deceptive speed. He looked like he was out for a casual jog while pulling away from every player on the field.

Arky had some entertaining teams back in the day and Matt Jones was a beast. Also, loved myself George Wilson. Got to meet him for the Lions before making a nice career for the Bills.
Just think about the players he had on the team.
Jason Peters
Sean Andrews
Cedric Cobbs
George Wilson
Richard Smith
Caleb Miller
Ahmad "Batman" Carrol
Tony Bua
Sam Olajubutu
Jeb Huckabe
Just a bunch of talented football players.
Houston Nutt had a guy named Tavaris Jackson on the team too, but somehow he wasn't good enough to get significant playing time.
He went on to have a great NFL career.

Matt jones, Darren mcfadden, felix jones, payton hillis. Best backfield I have ever seen. Imo best backfield ever. Everyone knew what was coming and everyone couldn't do shite to stop it. Houston nut was good back in those days

Hmm, I had no idea...
What a loser.

Matt Jones was different than Tebow. Jones was big but he was blazing fast. He was a bigger version of Eric Crouch or Tommie Frazier on a much worse team.
If he was playing today when the spread offense was embraced instead of in the early 2000s, he would be a Heisman candidate. Arkansas got really unlucky missing out by one year on having him, McFadden, Hillis, and Felix Jones in the same backfield.
Watching Jones eviscerate Texas in 2003 was eye opening. That game had to be really fun for Arkansas fans.

The dive play and keeper to the right vs Ole Miss was beauty. The scramble vs Texas where he threw horns down on a TD was genius.
God I wanted him to make something of himself in the NFL. He needed to be with Fitzgerald I guess. Someone to whip his arse in shape.

I wouldn't call Jackson's NFL career great by any means. 39 TD passes in 10 years and never had more than 14 in one season. Minnesota replaced him with Brett Favre going into his 4th season.

I meant in regards to his college career. He never got a chance to shine, so the fact he went on and played as much as he did was remarkable.
I guess I could have worded that differently.

Was one of my favorite non Tennessee players back in the Day.

I....I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Imagine him in a spread offense dear lord

I was at the game in LR when the Miracle on Markham happened and Jones completed a Hail Mary TD to win over the Saban led LSU tigers and clinch the West
I was there also. We played like hammered dog shite the entire game, but somehow managed that late 4th quarter drive to win the game. Thought War Memorial would crumble and fall (not due to the stadium being a POS) when Matt Jones threw the TD in the corner of the end zone to Decori Birminghem.
I was the guy in the red hog shirt at WMS. You probably saw me.

Your memory bank is bankrupt. You need to recalibrate.

Matt Jones' last year at Arkansas was 2004. Peyton Hillis is the only one of those backs who played with Matt Jones and only in his freshman year. The QB on those teams was Casey Dick. Matt Jones' RB was Cedric Cobbs
