Sherman was fired because y'all moved to the SEC?

It was rumored that Sherman & Byrne(AD)weren't too fond of playing against SEC competition. whether that factored into their firing or not,we got rid of both.
This.
And regardless, Sherman's pro style offense (which he would NOT have changed, regardless of conference) would have spelled doom for A&M.

Shortsighted? Yes, extremely- the SEC is far more successful and stable than the Big 12. But a one-time run to the Big Game is always something most fans can at least consider a worthwhile proposition.
I honestly think that this past year in the SEC has done just as much as a Natty in the Big 12 would have.

Big 12 was weak, and you could have ran the table. Decent chance at being 12-0, and as we saw you could play with Bama in a one-game scenario. More than likely, you would have smoked Notre Dame had that been the matchup. This could have been your dream season.
Contrary to what non-SEC people say, playing in the SEC against tough opponents week in and week out does make you better

We were better off in the SEC for football because our shitty secondary was never exposed.
SEC basketball sucked this year. On the other hand, that means we fit right in.
Playing SEC competition is going to do good things for our baseball program. The road trips did get harder to make. On the other hand, places like Lubbock, Waco, Stillwater. and Manhattan are boring as hell. In Lubbock's case, also dusty.
Leaving for Oxford, MS in three hours!

What makes you think that an undefeated aTm from the Big 12 would've got to the BCSCG over an undefeated ND & and undefeated Bama (since Bama & aTm wouldn't have played, Bama most likely would've have a loss)?

One of the MANY reasons he was fired was that he publicly spoke AGAINST the move to the SEC even after it was announced.

To the Bama fan saying the Tide have been undefeated... maybe not. There were quite a few capable teams in conference that might have beaten you, had you played them the week following the LSU game. I think we took something out of you for awhile, that you didn't get back until the bowl game. Just my opinion.
Without A&M (and Mizzou), they'd have played 3 pre-expansion east teams instead of just the one they played (that just happened to be 1-7 Tennessee), so maybe they would have picked up Georgia, Florida or S. Carolina with at least one of those spots. Playing 2 good SEC teams has meant a loss for Bama the last two years. Doubtful anything would have been different last year if they had played one of the good east teams. Or (God forbid!) two. They damned near lost to Georgia in the SECCG as it was.

Most of the time, "might have been" is pointless, but in this case, it's got some value.
False. It NEVER has value.

Truth. We were the best we could have been at the end of last year only because of how everything to that point played out. We had the talent to run the table in the Big XII no doubt, but I don't think we win against Bama in the championship game. ND loses to Oregon in another BCS game.

- We would have been demoralized having to play last year in the big whatever
- We matched up worst against prolific pass offenses
- We wouldn't have gotten the ranking boost from beating SEC teams
Like Florida and LSU?

Had we not joined the SEC, Bama would have been undefeated and even had we gone 12-0 we wouldnt have played for the title.
So yes, I'm glad we joined. 11-2 in the SEC is better than 12-1 or 13-0 in the Big XII without a national title.

Sherman was fired because he combined a 6-6 season with disagreement about the move to the SEC.
He thought like a lot of you guys did, that we'd get pounded.

I know in the SEC we like to jerk each other off and say "we play big boy football," but there are some offenses in the big12 that would have exploited the ATM defense.

This, absolutely. Just ask OU.

When we joined, I did not think we would be the premier school in the SEC that we have become in one short year. I think it turned out nicely.
