I calculate a little more than $43M wasted dollars there.

Well, I have not seen his contract but I assume it's very similar to Jim Harbaugh's deal. It's a cash value life insurance policy where the school pays for the policy. The insured (Jim or Ed or whomever) can take tax free "loans" out on the policy. As long as the loans and interest don't exceed the cash value and crash the policy.... then the money for who took it out is tax free and the loans plus interest would be paid with the death benefit at time of death.

A lot of corporations will compensate executives this way. It's a form of deferred compensation. Of course there is more details than I mentioned above, but that is the basics. You can google "Jim Harbaugh cash value life insurance" to get a full explanation in more detail.

Because it's probably a whole, not term, policy which means it has cash value. You can cash those out and pay taxes on them similar to a 401k. The cash value would be less than the face value but it's still a big chunk of change

You’ll get no argument from Auburn fans. Most overpaid, mediocre coach in the NCAA.

Ahhhhh! There's the explanation I was looking for! I know it took awhile to get all that down, but I really do appreciate your time and effort! Thanks!

Thanks to all the LSU fans that helped me understand. I realize on this board it's difficult to tell who is trolling and who has a genuine interest. Thanks for educating me on this!

TCU is still a member of the G5 if not for Patterson. They probably matched what he was offered to keep him

They're in the Big XII.

Although the Big XII can be mistaken for G5 schools

LSU paid Coach O $4M to win the National Championship.

Joe Brady, Joe Burrow, and an ensemble cast of one of the most talented teams of all time won a national title. Orgeron is Chizik and has now lost his edge since he’s captured a title and will never accomplish anything ever again.

He will be gone in 3 years

Highest paid coaches via @USAToday:
Nick Saban $9.3M
Ed Orgeron $8.9M

0 is making a helluva lot more per win than Saban is.

His success in the Iron Bowl is the only reason Gus gets paid that much. Auburn is spending a small fortune to be mediocre and sometimes beat Bama. They need to wise up and spend more of that money on Quarterbacks, like they did with Cam.

Still mad that State couldn't pony up for Cam even with the discount, huh?
