A few years ago my wife and I moved to Alaska after living for 30+ years in Mississippi.
17 of those years were spent either going to school or working at Ole Miss so I was conditioned to respond to certain external stimuli… like the proper response when some elderly random person greets me with Hotty Toddy… or some other rando yells out “Are you ready!”

So all this to talk about an encounter with someone wearing LSU gear.

I was walking out of the Huffman post office in Anchorage one day when a fella wearing the most obnoxious PURPLE long sleeved button down with LSU script the shirt steps up and holds the door open for me… I knew I should have been sus especially since I was wearing my Ile Miss colors proudly, but I yelled out Go to Hell LSU! The guy steps back shocked like I had just sprouted a third eye. I was confused so I started to apologize and he tells me condescendingly that he always enjoyed a crazy fan.

Well this sourdough was no longer a cheechako so I should have known better than to assUme. Alaskans don’t follow college football like they do down south. I was lucky I wasn’t bear sprayed.

What happens in Alaska should stay in Alaska and away from this board.

he told you that in a condescending manner? Like sarcastic? Trying to picture it, because it doesn't sound like a condescending thing to say.

There are a lot of out of state colleges represented here. I’ve run into Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, USCw, Tennessee and Alabama grads here. Somehow the rivalries just don’t seem to matter up here.

There is a State fan who lives in Alaska. He posts a lot during baseball season, really good guy. I think his username is TimeOutdoors or something close to that.

LSU fan here living in Homer. While pretty rare, I run into quite a bit of LSU fans. And quite a bit of SEC fans as well. I do wish there were more college fans up this way, but it’s also nice to have a little extra camaraderie with the ones you do meet. Also, go to hell ole piss!

Doesn't matter, if the SEC Basketball tournament was in Nome, they would sell it out.

Football culture isn’t like the south anywhere in the nation but here.

That same exchange down here would have yielded friendly ribbing or a fist fight. No in between

I can’t imagine the culture shock of moving from MS to Alaska

I imagine there’s not a large following of college football fans in Alaska. Probably pro either for that matter. 11AM games start at 8AM in AK. You don’t live in AK to attend sporting events.

Yeah, oregon people are very casual duck fans.

I’ve been to both watching lsu play the two in regionals, and I will say oregon state has a really fun tailgate scene before regional games. SEC vibes for sure. I’m hopeful the beavs get picked up by the Big 12. Good people and good school
