There’s been some discussion about, do you lose a home game?”

This might actually cause MORE field storms. Let's say your HC has been mediocre to terrible but your fan base knows the school isn't going to can him. The fans could decide to storm field couple times after losses to punish the school via loss of money/home games to make a point.

Or what if a bunch of opposing fans show up to a rival's game against an opponent that doesn't sell out wearing their rival's gear just so they can storm the field to make them lose a home game?

Byrne, along with UGA’s AD and and Kentucky’s AD, were appointed by Sankey to come up with ideas for dealing with this issue. So it isn’t surprising to see him discussing this, as it’s his job to find a solution to this issue.

I too remember Vince Young...

ETA: it is a damn shame that the NFL does not.

Alabama’s AD

Maybe should focus on keeping his players from killing moms, coaches from betting on games/tipping off gamblers, etc.

Holy hell Bama. You were appointed and this could’ve been your time to shine now that Kirby and Brandon Miller took all your shine away but you give this take?

Good luck getting appointed again.

Biggest group of thugs and pussies. What a collection of garbage. Things are only going to get uglier in Tuscaloosa as the tDecline continues.

Help me out here, is this a long-standing thing I’ve somehow been ignorant of in our time here?

Yes. Historically the fans of all SEC programs largely have acknowledged that storming the field (particularly with the visiting teams still out there) was dangerous and in poor taste. This is why the conference put in protocol to try to curtail the behavior. It was always something fans would be ashamed of. There wasn’t really anything controversial here until some of these younger generations came up which have forced society to deal with their weird complexes around victimhood and not taking responsibility for their own poor actions. Now, for the first time ever, there is this weird movement of basement-dwelling nerds advocating for field-storming, something that just 15 years ago we would have all agreed is something that should be avoided. Just another weird reversal of values and historical norms.

The solution should be any school that have fans pull this would lose alcohol privileges for the following home game. You would cut revenue to the school and ruin most students and fans good time. This in addition to current fine.
2nd offense, COVID crowd and no students rest of the year.
If it occurs at last game of season, it is then applied to first game of the next year.

Alabama’s AD has ideas to curb SEC field storming, says ‘fines don’t work’

well that's simply not true. $100K isn't shite to these schools to make it a couple mil on the first offense. Second offense? $30 Million. I guarantee you it'll stop real quick once you make the fines high enough.

Losing a home game though affects fans, stadium vendors, restaurants, and hundreds of other entities so I despise that being an option. It's just way too knee-jerk. Everyone these days always says "we have to DO SOMETHING about [issue]!!!" Why? Why does EVEYRTHING have to have somethign done about it? If jermaine burton wasn't a prick would this even be a topic?

I think the problem with fines is that in the heat of the moment, the average fan isn't thinking, wow, this might cost the school a lot of money.

As far as policing it goes, a great example of how that can end badly can be seen in Wisc/Mich 1993. They tried to barricade the crowd from storming the field after resulting in dozens of injuries. So there has to be some incentive to the fan and fining the school is not it.

The first time an SEC team loses a home game will be the last time we see anyone rush the field.

Why not suggest it?
We ALL know that The Tide fans don't storm fields, ever, so why not penalize the lessor programs if they can't control their fans in the stadiums/arenas?...
