It’s got worse since the expansion and the playoff. Wasn’t so bad before then. Since 2017 or so, I’m finding myself either turning games off hafway through or falling asleep. Never used to fall asleep. Just isn’t what it used to be. Way more exciting, the controversey of the BCS. Now people want more playoff games when the ones we already get are hardly any good. NFL is way better than college. Never thought I’d say that.
SEC has brought in some better coaches like Kiffin, Pittman, the guy at Missouri, and even Leach to a degree. I was impressed with what they did with the strange circumstances of this season. Jimbo also has A&M on the rise. Maybe he can take Malzahn’s place and steal a game or two from Saban.
Coaching has fell off a lot. You still have O and Kirby and Mullen, all mediocre coaches. And now the new guys at Auburn and South Carolina. Don’t see much upside with those guys either. Boise State was a national name before Harsin took over. Alabama’s offensive cooridinator and offensive line coaches are better than him, but he may surprise me. If Chizic and Orgeron can win natties, anyone can if they hit it right.
Ole Miss was a pretty entertaining team to watch last year. I followed them more than the others. Arkansas was fun to watch as well. The lesser teams are fun to watch duke it out. The margue matchups are usually duds.
I don’t look for it to get much better.

That's so sad. Wonder what B1G fans are complaining about as they watch their one entree every year go to the playoff and the other 13 looking like roadkill? What about them ACC fans? Clemson and the 13 dwarfs? Don't forget Oklahoma as the only worthy combatant in among the special 10, every freakin year. Poor Pac 12, they don't have even the one special gladiator to brag about these days.
Poor, poor SEC fans have to watch the best TEAMs, with multiple championship pedigrees, in the most competitive conference in college football. Nor sure why any SEC fan has to be subjected to such persecution every year.

I don't buy this line of thought.
In fact, it would be worse if it had stayed the same.
How can people say expanding the playoffs to 8 would better, yet going from 2 to 4 made it worse?
The perception of "it's worse" now is just coincidental to the advent of the CFP. It's just that it so happens Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State have become dominant in their respective conferences. That is the "problem".
Also, the Pac 12 has been sinking in a liberal shithole disregarding sports more amd more

I'm probably going to get downvoted for this but I really want some form of parity in the sport.
Good luck with that, FCS has a huge playoff and fewer scholarships and one team (North Dakota State) dominates that level.

He gets the #1 rated class almost every year, 9 out of the last 10. So, shouldn't he win it all almost every year?
Let’s test this theory with LSU.
Year. 247 rank. Final AP
2014. 2nd Unranked
2015. 5th 16th
2016. 2nd. 13th
2017 7th. 18th
2018. 11th. 6th
2019. 4th. 1st (anomaly)
2020 4th. Unranked

Oddly enough, Georgia had the highest rated roster for the 2020 season.

Nope. Young players have to develop and get playing time before they reach their full potential.
Yeah but if you always get the best players than the guys from 3-4 years ago should be at their full potential.

Cap the number of blue chip athletes

Plus Clemson has been recruiting at an insane levels as well and were able to win a few games, then LSU happened in 2019

What if the NFL had no salary caps and one team won the Super Bowl 6 of 11 times?
Would that be good or bad for the sport?
With the current recruiting system there may be no way to encourage parity, but I think it is obvious that parity is good for college football as a whole because it encourages more interest nationally.

At least LSU won one in a pretty awesome fashion. College football is incredibly boring right now, though. Doesn't help that we just went through a fake season with no fans.
ETA: Also, it's 6 titles in 12 seasons.

It’s still the best conference but it sucks watching it. I used to work 2 jobs but I could stay up all day and binge games. would never nod off. now, I can’t watch one game withoud passing out. College football sucks now.

those people wanting to expand it are wrong. that would water it down even more. best fix would be to leave non conference games as open dates and then schedule games based on rankings and records as the season progresses. best of both worlds, but the playoffs are in the regular season. Plus, it’d be like a pop quiz. you’d have short time to prepare. would be mroe exciting. and someone would have homefield advantage.

For many people outside of the southeast, college football is just something else to watch on Ssturdays in the Fall.
It is not the year long attraction like it is for so many of us in the south.

no offense intended but that's ridiculous. Nobody, not even the almighty ncaa, can determine where a kid will go to school, even if "student athlete" is a farce.
They already do. What do you guys think 25 scholarships a year do? How many more 5 star and 4 star recruits would Bama get if there were no restrictions?

I have always advocated for a Big 10 / SEC challenge to start the year. Think about it, 14 vs 14 in the month of September. With one more OOC high profile game thrown in (ACC, Big 12, PAC), it would bring back your interest I would imagine.

It's on the other programs and conferences to be competitive with the SEC again, not the other way around. Frick them. I've been saying for years I would be more than ok with southern schools breaking away from the NCAA and other conferences and having our own league. It would be more competitive and better than anything we've seen before.

Watching Saban over this span has been like watching Jordan in his prime. Just gotta respect it.
