Could have done better. Could have done worse. Saban couldn't afford to lose either of those guys because they are elite recruiters plus they are good position coaches. Plus I am sure he is tired of seeing a coordinator leave every fricking year because everybody wants a Saban disciple. Maybe we have these two for more than a year or two.

Locksley has some really good experience so I worry much more about Tosh. We will find out soon enough if it paid off. It's already paying off on the recruiting trail.

Locksley OC
Lupoi DC

The best part is and what the speculation is is that you have Danny enos as QB coach and assistant OC. There’s some talk he may end up being the play caller or that Locksley will have a very short leash. Dan Enos is a better OC that the current OC and has a better reputation as OC than Gattis.

So he offers Dan Enos one o f the best OC in CFB a QB coach job and he accepts but he couldn’t get other guys to accept the job. What happened was Locksley is a great recruiter and is heavy in the DC Maryland area and he didn’t want to lose him. The same reason Lupoi was given the DC job.

Did the Notre Dame guy turn us down? I had heard he interviewed and it didn't go well. Maybe just from a fit standpoint.

I don’t think he was ever offered the job. If Dan Enos was willing to accept a job as QB coach you don’t think he would have come as the OC? Telling you this was all about recruiting.

Exactly. Last year's recruiting class hurt. It was a top ten class but we missed badly at a couple of spots that are going to not only hurt down the road but this year we really needed one or two elite inside linebackers for depth. We will recover and make up for it this year but yeah, this staff is recruiting first and coaching second. Plus I think both are outstanding coaches.

The OC from Notre Dame and one other guy I forget his name

I wasn't aware that we offered the notre dame guy, much less that he turned us down. My impression was that we promoted locksley because the players love him and we needed to keep what we could of our recruiting class together with all that staff turnover. Then we brought in guys like gattis and Enos to help cover any gaps locksley might have

I wouldn't.

Unfortunately I see the same thing I don’t think Jalen will ever be a throwing QB. Asking a running QB to become a good thrower when it’s not part of his natural makeup is like asking your four through six hole hitters to be great base stealers. They may get one every now and then but you know they’re going to get thrown out most of the time.

From the rumors I read, it would've been Chip Long (the ND OC) but his demands were unacceptable to Saban (wanted to be the sole OC and control of which assistant was in charge of the OL)...

If their coaching is anything like their recruiting, watch out!

This. Getting the players he does provides him with a defense that will always be present to win.

He passed him over when he hired Daboll. There was talk that he felt he should've been given the job. He also wasn't Saban's first choice this go around. He ended up settling for Locksley after failing to get a couple of other guys. You could also count Saban's going with Sarikisian. That's three times, and multiple coaches he tried to get before Locksley. For whatever reason, Saban has tried to avoid hiring Locksley as OC.

Yeah, no.
