In 1964, Alabama claimed to be national champions because they were undefeated in the regular season, despite losing in their bowl game.
Alabama claims the 1964 national championship because it was awarded to them by the AP under the system in place at the time. Same for 1965. Being undefeated has nothing to do with it, or Alabama would have claimed 1966 as well.

I hate Alabama, but this is legit. It is how it worked at the time regardless of revisionist history.
However….. Several of the earlier Alabama championships that were retroactively claimed and Alabama recognizes as legit are total BS.

1941 is a bullshite claim.
I'd be fine with not claiming the ones prior to 1936. Notre Dame is actually the one that started doing that and it goes back to the kind of national rivalry between Alabama and Notre Dame in the 60's and 70's and the highlights national politics put on things.
Notre Dame wouldn't even play in bowl games until they started making them count for National Championships.
They were basically the ones that set the standard and then Alabama just started claiming them in the same way. Except 1941. Notre Dame doesn't claim anything other than AP and Coaches polls post 1936.

Do you really want to make up fake championships like Alabama? It's unbecoming

And the link rightly shows LSU 1908. Hang the banner, AD!

Arkansas has 0 legitimate national championships.
Bowl games were exhibition games in 1964 no matter how much you want to pretend otherwise. Alabama was named National Champions nearly a month before the bowl games.
You finished #3 in both the AP and Coaches in 1977.

I would recognize 1908 as legit for LSU if they claimed it.
It's not really a strong claim, but it fits under the Notre Dame standard.

Tell that to Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson.
Arkansas should go ahead and claim 77.

It's as valid as men who claim to be women. Nothing than more than a fantasy for those who can't deal with the reality they've been handed because they watch too much Alabama porn and have unrealistic expectations.

You are blaming Alabama for their 1964 championship, but that's how it was awarded back then, before the bowl games. If Arkansas wants to claim 1964 then they should do that.

Your 1965 claim is bogus.
A 7-3 LSU team took care of Arkansas butt in the 1/1/66 Cotton Bowl. One of my favorite LSU games of all-time! Broke a 22 game Arkansas winning streak. Broyles was despondent as Arkansas blew their chance at a national championship. LSU was a huge underdog in the game.
p.s. A little story about that game. As the Tigers were leaving the hotel to go to the game, some big mouth Arkansas fan yelled out "look, they are actually going to show up!". It pissed Charlie McClendon off and was used to fire up the Tigers.

Arkansas QB got hurt in the second quarter and didn't return.
LSU jump up 14-0 and that was enough to win.
It was hard on Broyles but the 69 Texas game broke his spirit.

It's kind of dumb to count an exhibition game based on the premise of not understanding history of the game. And yet for some reason it's all anyone ever does.
