LSU is ranked like that because our liberal arts are so abysmally low.

"In our study, we looked at about 7,300 college graduates 10 years after graduation. We divided their majors into several categories: business, engineering, science, social science, humanities, education and other. And we used three broad classifications for college type: selective, which covers elite schools and other highly competitive institutions; midtier; and less selective, which covers schools with open enrollment.
What we found startled us. For STEM-related majors, average earnings don’t vary much among the college categories. For example, we find no statistically significant differences in average earnings for science majors between selective schools and either midtier or less-selective schools. Likewise, there’s no significant earnings difference between engineering graduates from selective and less-selective colleges, and only a marginally significant difference between selective and midtier colleges."

I looked up the SAT score of the freshman class at Bama. You can be borderline retarded and get in to that school.

I’m pretty sure higher numbers are better. If you had got your learnin’ from Mississippi State you dumb dumbs might know that

These rankings are actually useless because of the many different criteria used which have absolutely nothing to do with what type of education you receive

we had an extremely shitty President until recently. actually a run of terrible presidents since Mark E left. looks like we finally got a good one now. I would expect LSU to start going back up. Gonna take a lot of work though.

I always thought the hard part was finishing.
This is U.S. News "version" of U of A's rating.
University of Alabama is ranked #137 out of 443 National Universities. Schools are ranked according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence.

Academic rankings are largely based on the amount of funding in the endowment at the university. What matters most is the accreditation status of both the university and the program for your respective major. Take a look at the earnings for graduates of SEC schools and compare that to your rankings (just scroll to the very bottom in the link):
LINK
Across the SEC:
Early Career Earnings (graduates who received a bachelor’s degree):
1. Vanderbilt University* – $64,400 (private university)
2. Texas A&M University – $66,600
3. University of Florida – $55,800
4. LSU – $54,800
5(t). Auburn University – $54,400
5(t). University of Georgia – $54,400
7. University of Arkansas – $52,500
8(t). University of Missouri – $52,300
8(t). University of Alabama – $52,300
10. University of Kentucky – $51,700
11(t.). Mississippi State University – $51,100
11(t). University of Tennessee – $51,100
13. University of South Carolina – $50,300
14. University of Mississippi – $48,500
Mid-Career Earnings (graduates who received a bachelor’s degree):
1. Vanderbilt University* – $119,100 (private university)
2. Texas A&M University – $115,700
3. Auburn University – $104,500
4. LSU – $102,900
5. University of Florida – $102,800
6. University of Georgia – $100,700
7. University of Missouri – $98,600
8. University of Arkansas – $98,000
9. University of Alabama – $97,400
10. University of Kentucky – $96,400
11. University of Tennessee – $95,100
12. Mississippi State University – 94,100
13. University of South Carolina – $89,900
14. University of Mississippi – $89,100
The point is that you can get a quality education at every SEC school and earn a good salary.

Any school worse than Auburn should be embarrassed.

exactly...look at the salaries...those that have big stem departments = more average pay
i do agree that LSU needs to get better and should be ranked higher based on resources but also at the same time...who gives a frick about rankings based on some bullshite criteria? Shouldnt the ability of a school to get you an education to make lots of money but the #1 factor?
normal people dont got to college to just learn. the age of classic education is gone and should never come back. You go to college to get an education in something that can make you money and to prepare you for a career as much as a school can. These mid career salary rankings reflect which schools are good at doing that.

Oh I know who is to blame. The same shitty government officials that plague Mississippi as well. The standard that has been in place for over a 100 years. It will never ever change! Ever!
Trust me I know, I work in Higher Education(non teacher) and my wife is a Special Ed teacher in one of the worse districts in South Louisiana.

well uga should be embarressed and so should almost every other SEC school and for that matter....most schools in the nation because Auburn is pretty damn good at producing grads that make damn good money and that is the only stat that really truely matters.
who gives a frick how a school ranks on diversity of student body or how good some dumbass liberal arts professor is?
you go to college to make money! ITS WHY YOU PLAY THE GAME!!!

Ok cool. Just making sure you weren't part of the group that thinks anyone but the Rs that have controlled our states for decades are to blame.

We spend an insane amount per student especially in the F districts. More money would mean more waste unfortunately. Vicious cycle.

You are bragging about being 4th best...yell practice proves how bad these rankings are
