I like it. We’d likely have more.

12 team playoff or 4 team playoff, it doesn't matter. The same teams who always finish in the top five in recruiting year after year, Alabama, Clemson, UGA, LSU, and Ohio State, will still win all the national championships.
Well, maybe I should have left off UGA, since they can't win a natty for nothing and no matter how much they cheat in recruiting.

For decades, those against a real playoff system in major college football (D1,FBS, whatever it will be called now) made hollow, non-sensical arguments...
Too many games.
Too hard on the players.
Ruin bowl games.
Etc,etc.
Of course, every other level of organized football, from high school, to all other classes of college football, to the NFL, even the frickin arena leagues somehow magically did just fine with real, actual playoffs.
Bout. Damn. Time.
Of course a fan of a shitty little should-be Division III team posted this drivel. Only an idiot - WAIT - a MORON - could possibly forget what makes college football *SPECIAL*: The Regular Season. Now those late season big boy battles that attracted millions of TV viewers like Alabama/LSU or Notre Dame/USC or Florida/Florida State or even the Conference Championship Games will become irrelevant just so 6 or 7 shitty teams can get their asses kicked in boring blow outs and brag they made the "Playoffs". What a fricking imbecile the OPs post is. Let's destroy the sport because your favorite tiny itty bitty team can't compete with Alabama for fans, recruits, TV time, and Championships. God you are a fricking moron OP. Alabama will NEVER be out of the Playoffs now. They will be able to lose 2 games and still make the playoffs. But most importantly your glee for the 12 team Playoff will make the sport itself less popular drawing far fewer TV audiences when the games become less important because the Regular Season doesn't matter as much anymore - no game is a "must win" for the Big Boys anymore and all that matters to idiots like you is titty baby teams like Troy might once every 50 years get a chance to get blown out by Alabama in a so-called Playoff Game.
The top 50 College Teams should withdraw from NCAA Division I, create their own league, and keep ALL THE MONEY.

Thank You for pointing out the obvious to these people that struggle to see what this move will do to the regular season. And without the greatest regular season in the history of sports I don’t know if college football can maintain its popularity.

I don't like the expanded playoff at all but I accept it because one thing I have learned through the years is the one constant is things change. Like that guy in the other thread I miss 70's and 80's college football but it's never coming back, let's just hope they don't ruin things completely

They are trying real damn hard to ruin things very bad.

And that's what your thesis ignores. Demographics. Southern teams are going to continue to win and win at a high level because the demographics of the sport favor the Deep South.
I think it has more to do with emphasis. College football is more important in the Deep South than in major population centers that mostly gravitate toward pro sports, as well as the million other things you can do in a metropolitan area.
It’s like the USA and soccer. Based on demographics we should be kicking the shite out of everyone, but folks in the USA don’t care as much about soccer as they do in the UK, Spain, Brazil, etc., so we don’t.
Miami didn’t stop winning because demographics changed but because money is more important to football than it has ever been and the Canes can’t/won’t ante up.
So it’s very important to be sitting on top of a good population, but emphasis is just as important - especially in a sport where teams can recruit nationwide. If players had to stay in state that would be very bad for Bama and Clemson.

Schools from the pac 12 and most of the big ten/acc will never have the network of boosters and bagmen that the big dogs do and the entire SEC does. They never needed to until the past 15 years or so.
That being said, NIL is the other elephant in the room in terms of how the sport is evolving. NIL could really help schools like Michigan, notre dame and penn state even the playing field against the SEC in terms of recruiting with their giant and somewhat more affluent fan bases. Time will tell.

ITT, I gather that Alabama fans are not happy with playoff expansion.
Therefore, it must be good for parity in the sport.

I think that most of us think it's bad for the sport, but inside we realize that the odds of Bama missing the playoffs go down tremendously. We would have made it in both 2008 and 2013 and might have two more national championships.

8 should be the number, I guess it makes too much sense.

I’m okay expanding the playoff, but some of y’all make some sorry arse arguments.
How about "Alabama will win even more national championships." Does that argument work? Does for me.

This won’t be the end of it. When the SEC is getting 3 or 4 teams in every year, everybody else will start screaming for limiting the number from a conference. It will end up being discriminatory.
I’m with the poster who says the big 5 conferences pull out of the NCAA.

Aren't you an arkansas fan? Why do you even care?

Lol at anyone thinking this changes anything
If it doesn’t change anything, why should you care? The idea of non-Bama teams competing for a 12th spot in the playoffs has to be more exciting than “competing” to play in the Taxslayer Bowl.

Why are fans so hell-bent on ruining college football by turning it into the NFL? We've already got over-commercialized stadiums with the same piped-in music. Are we trying to ruin the traditional rivalries now, too?

Stop trying to wish this dumb arse shite into existence.
