In 2020 these teams would have made a 12 team playoff:

9- Georgia
10- Iowa State
11- Indiana
12- Coastal Carolina

In 2019

9- Penn State
10- Minnesota
11- Notre Dame
12- Baylor

Which of those teams deserved a chance at winning the NC?

Let's just have a 128 team playoff and give everybody a trophy.

I'm for it for 2 reasons.

1)every level of football, including all other collegiate levels, have a playoff. All of this hyperbole and speculation is bullshite. We have a propenderance of evidence.

2)And this is the big one for me, though I realize other fanbases on here don't give a shite, but I have long maintained that if Kentucky basketball had the same absurd arbitrary arse setup for determining the national champion that college football has had throughout its history, we would have over 30 national titles. If all we ever had to do was be voted AP #1 at the end of the season, or now just get an autobid to the Final Four.....I mean it's fricking ridiculous. So we've got no problems with you Alabama, yall are like our brother from another mother as you know, but yeah, enjoy dealing with a bullshite postseason like we've had to all these years where the best team doesn't always end up winning. Think we're happy about not being champs in 15, 10, 03 etc? Because we sure as frick were the best team those years.

Good luck!

Screwing up the best and most intense regular season so average teams can have their sweet sixteen moment is beyond stupid. I think ratings for early season games that would normally have championship implications but no longer do will start to plummet sooner rather than later. We like having de facto elimination games in September. That’s why the sport is popular.

These expanded playoffs are going to destroy the traditional rivalry games at the end of the season. Say you have a #1 undefeated Bama team heading in to the Iron Bowl or Ohio State about to square off against Michigan. You don't think Nick is going to sit Najee or Tia knowing he's got the playoffs wrapped up? Or OSU will keep Fields or Boss out with a berth in the Final 12 locked in? The fans would crucify coaches who get a star hurt in a meaningless game. Why do people want to turn these games that make college football great into having all the charm of a Week 17 NFL snoozefest?

Of course, all the pro-expansion dumbasses will be sitting there with a dumb look on their faces saying, "We never thought this would happen".

Of course a fan of a shitty little should-be Division III team posted this drivel. Only an idiot - WAIT - a MORON - could possibly forget what makes college football *SPECIAL*: The Regular Season.

Here is 1/4 of Alabama's 2021 football schedule:
Mercer @ Alabama
Southern Miss @ Alabama
New Mexico State @ Alabama
That doesn't sound so "special" to me. If anything in college football needs to change it's mandated 9 game conference schedules and TV network devised non-conference schedules. Instead of Mercer, Southern Miss and NM State, Alabama should be playing a top tier Big 10 team, top tier Big 12 team and another cross division SEC team.

Its good for Bama and the SEC but the autobid is bad for the sport as well as the top 4 not getting to play at home

About time major college football got real playoffs
For decades, those against a real playoff system in major college football (D1,FBS, whatever it will be called now) made hollow, non-sensical arguments...

Too many games.

Too hard on the players.

Ruin bowl games.

Etc,etc.

Of course, every other level of organized football, from high school, to all other classes of college football, to the NFL, even the frickin arena leagues somehow magically did just fine with real, actual playoffs.

Bout. Damn. Time.

Same shite they said after the BCS.

What actually happened: Things got even more consolidated and even less teams started winning national championships. Best of all, they still got the SEC vs SEC championship game they cried about even quicker than they would have with the old BCS system(Alabama doesn't make it in at all in 2018 with the BCS).

On the one hand, I kind of would love to see people like you get what they want. At the same time, I know it also means college football is about to get even worse, and the rich are about to get much richer.

Can't wait for that 7-5 usc matchup with 8-4 Baylor who are only in because their conferences sucked.

They would both be low seeds so they wouldn't play each other unless they beat better teams in early rounds.

These people think expanding the playoffs is going to hurt Alabama, OSU or Clemson’s chances of winning a NC? They must be window-licking stupid.

All three of those arguments are correct.

Nothing says a quality playoff like including a bunch of 2 and 3 loss teams that have no chance of winning it.

Kind of like non-divisional winners making the current system?

When Saban retires or croaks the fricksticks at Bama will be on board with this version of the playoffs. Mike Shula 2.0 on tap. Get ready.

I understand the playoffs but why jump from 4 to 12. I support 6 with top 2 getting a bye or 8 but we have seen lately that there are huge blowouts even with the top 4.

Roll Tide will be in the playoffs most years with or without NS if they go to 12. And the Bama depth, unless they lose their starting QB, should propel them further then the likes of the UCF or the Troys of the world.

If the non-divisional winner made the playoff with 2 or 3 losses it might be similar, but otherwise that’s a stupid comparison.

I bet it was fun watching 2 teams your team beat that year playing for the National championship. It made it more fun for us.

Kind of like how the playoffs had made it...oh wait, Alabama has won national championships it wouldn't have won because the playoffs.

The idea that more opportunity is bad for the teams capable of making the most out of those opportunities is really dumb, and probably the root of so many bad rules lately.

Kind of like how people thought allowing instant transfers was going to hurt the big teams and help the lower teams. What happened was the opposite, the players who do well on the G5 teams want to come play for the big teams, while the G5 teams get the ones who weren't capable of making it at the big schools.

The rich keep getting richer. Alabama and other top teams are rich enough. As long as everyone is playing by the same rules, making things "tougher" is just going to help those other teams.

A team like UCF might could have gotten lucky and won a playoff game or 2. But they are never going to have enough depth to survive many games against big physical P5 teams.

Meanwhile, teams might lose more players to injuries, but teams like Alabama are going to be the ones that have the depth to deal with it. They are a crap shoot to begin with, but depth is what gets you through it.

The gap between the top2 or 3 teams and the 12th team is extreme.

I don't know why a group of 10 or so people are getting to decide/recommend this shite to start with. I guess the playoff committee has bought and paid for college football now?

They'll probably do something like 6 or 8 and then people will just be happy it's not 12.

Only thing I can think of. It's like they said - let's announce the most dogshit thing ever, but then do something not quite as bad, so people will be less upset.

I think my SEC championship tickets will not be valued in the resale market like they once were.

It sort of was a playin game about 2 of 3 years.

Now it will be just another game. Maybe for playoff position, but not necessarily elimination.
