90's Spurrier #1
From then on, he's Top 5-6
I'd have to disagree simply because he's done something that no one else in the country had ever done before ... and believe me, over the years, some good ones have tried including Paul Dietzel, Jim Carlin and Lou Holtz.

I think you have to Saban #1, but I could see Miles, Richt, and Spurrier in any order. Maybe it is P&G glasses but I have Miles at 2, and had Richt has 3 I think mostly out of longevity at one school. Maybe I should put Spurrier at 3, because you do bring up good points, and that is also why I have Franklin so high. No one had won at Vandy in forever. Any school would be lucky to have one of those 5 as their coach IMO. Like EKG said, that is a hell of a list of coaches.

I think Muschamp did a better job than Sumlin this year. Florida's offense was absolutely fricking anemic and they still managed 11 (or 10?) wins.
do you think UF wins if they play aTm in the middle or at the end of this past season?

Les doesnt deserve to be that high. He hasn't won a BCS bowl since 07 and that was with Sabans players.
Does that mean that Saban won with Shula's players in '09?
But seriously, Miles won the SEC two years ago. Way more impressive than any BCS bowl outside of the title game.

Thank you for saying this. I have never understood this argument. It's not like it was year one like Cocker. And usually the only people that say this, say Saban's players were the only reason Miles won, and Saban was the only reason Bama won in 09. They are both great coaches. I'm sure every AD would be thrilled with Miles as coach. (Not saying they would all trade at this point)

I think an argument could be made if it was the very next year and previous coach had left for the NFL or something. But that wasn't the case with Miles at LSU.

Exactly. I like Miami, but Larry Cocker won with Butch Davis' players. Either way it's kind of a stupid argument. The coach still has the title. The fans still love it the same either way. A national title is a national title and I could care less how other teams fans think of it. And like you said, he just won the SEC 2 years ago, which is no easy task. Just look back at that list of coaches.

The AP disagrees.
How many folks guaranteed Muschamp would win 6 this year?

Both had good seasons, but sumlin's season was definitely more impressive and unexpected than muschamp's.
All that said, both still have a lot to prove, and neither belong in the upper echelon of SEC coaches just yet.

I would switch Richt and Sumlin. Richt has lost way too many big games for my liking and gets constantly owned by elite coaches (Meyer, Spurrier, Saban, etc...). If I had to pick one coach to coach my favorite program, I would pick Sumlin over Richt hands down. Also, Bielema needs to be ranked higher. He might come across as a meathead but three Big 10 titles and three Rose Bowl appearances is way more impressive than anything that Franklin, Freeze and Mullen has done.
