That is hyperbole. But they did field the #1 overall scoring defense and YPG in the SEC for several years in a row. Routinely in top 10 in most major categories nationally.

But regardless, even as maligned as the 2019 defense was, it was still the #3 defense in the SEC in PPG and #4 in YPG. Compared to Alabama being #1 in both categories from 2010-2013, 2015-2017, it was quite the change since 2018.

Throw out the two pick sixes and you still are left with 34 points the defense allowed Auburn to score on them.

And you win by 11 points.

Obviously not a very good defensive performance but Auburn averaged 33.2 points per game in 2019.

To be fair, not a huge accomplishment. Probably the worst Saban defense at UA since 2007.

Well, of course, we cannot have it any other way, aigght? So, the defense that the long haired dude from Clemson tore the frick out of was his second worse defense at Alabama?

2014 or 2018 would definitely qualify. Every other defense has routinely been #1 in PPG and YPG in the SEC.

2007 - #4 PPG, # 6 YPG
2008 - #2 PPG, #2 YPG
2009 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2010 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2011 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2012 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2013 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2014 - #3 PPG, #3 YPG
2015 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2016 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2017 - #1 PPG, #1 YPG
2018 - #3 PPG, #3 YPG
2019 - #3 PPG, #5 YPG

You're ignoring the kickoff return for a touchdown after Auburn's first pick six as well as the good field position Waddle put our offense in after the second pick six.

If you just get the one touchdown that was a pick six in the end zone, you win

No. His second worse defense was last year's. UA didn't play Clemson last year. Reading comprehension is hard.

And if the defense had gotten off the field just one time it didn't on third down, we win. See how this works?

With all due respect, neither. I think he will be remembered as the best coach of all time. That said....there is no denying that since the transition from smash mouth football to finesse football Alabama has struggled a bit more.

If he can get over that hump and win another NC then that will settle that, though.

I see that it is difficult for you to comprehend. I said that if LSU tore up his worse defense, then the long haired must have torn up his second worse defense. The OP said last year was his worse defense. Your head....yeah, that one, get it out of your arse

You guys seriously don't understand how stupid and childish you look spelling Saban that way. It isn't edgy or funny. It just isn't a good look bro.

Not to mention that without Saban , LSU would still be a mediocre football program. Oof

No doubt, however most teams arent going to overcome throwing two pick sixes to a decent team on the road.

Blaming the defense for not getting "one more stop" is kind of just pointing fingers when your offense straight up gave them 14 points.

Have you seen WHO writes history these days? This one is easy. Nick will be remembered as a racist white exploiter who used black kids to enrich himself as part of the white power structure, for the entertainment of racist whites. They will say he ran a modern-day Alabama slave plantation. Of course that's how all white coaches will be remembered, so he will have lots of company.

I guess although there wasn't a huge difference in points allowed compared to some prior years.

Opponents Points Per Game

Now take out non SEC opponents. Follow that up by take out opponents with losing records. See what it look like? Not so good.

This is the sad, but honest, truth.

Also, Saban will NEVER be remembered fondly by anyone, and even if he is, will finish far, far behind the beloved FatBert.

Looking through the first page real quick, I believe Draconian probably gave the best answer given the context.

He had such a reputation going in but his exploits leading up to his possible departure make me wonder if (outside of the greatest of all time mantra that’s kind of obvious) said association will ever be remembered otherwise. Odd hypothetical but

Defense. He’s had some good and great offenses, but has had some great-GOAT defenses.
