$63 million college football HC surging as favorite to be named next Florida coach

An intense battle is potentially brewing between three SEC teams for Lane Kiffin. Both LSU and Florida have been linked to Kiffin. Ole Miss is a potential College Football Playoff team giving Kiffin plenty to think about before bolting for perceived greener pastures.

Kiffin may be the favorite, but this does not necessarily mean that the coveted coach will leave Ole Miss. If Kiffin does bolt Ole Miss, the SEC coach could also take the LSU job over Florida. USA Today's Paul Myerberg predicted that Kiffin will eventually take the Florida gig.
"The best odds at this moment have Kiffin either staying put or replacing Billy Napier with the Gators," Myerberg wrote on Nov. 6.
"One thing that can’t be overlooked but has been largely ignored during the will-he-or-won’t-he debate: Kiffin has established a consistent contender and might be drawn to finish what he’s started after leading an itinerant coaching career before his arrival in Oxford."
Florida may not be able to hire Lane Kiffin until January
Ole Miss is very much in the College Football Playoff picture which complicates Florida's pursuit of the Rebels coach. If Ole Miss makes a run in the postseason, Kiffin may be coaching the Rebels through the middle of Jan.
Kiffin is listed as a heavy favorite to be named Florida's new coach. Kalshi, a predictive odds market, gives Kiffin a 56% chance to be named the next Florida coach. Kiffin's odds continue to increase with Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz a distant second at 20% in the Florida odds.

The one thing about this that I can’t quite understand. Ole Miss is now in a nice position, the success there is not a flash in the pan. Lane has built something there that seems to have legs.
Why leave for a total rebuild situation?
I think my money is on him staying.

Because the level of talent, facilities, etc at UF and LSU is much better.
Coaches want to win titles. LSU and UF do not want coaches happy with 10 wins and no titles for years..both schools want coaches with higher goals.

I think Kiffin has shown the possibility is there to do at Ole Miss. With the expanded playoffs, NIL/portal, it's absolutely possible to do so there.

Ego. Most great coaches have one and think they can replicate success anywhere they go.
I think it is 50/50 he stays or goes to Florida. Not sure why anyone with a family would want to move to Baton Rouge with the crime. Nothing to do with LSU and the program. If LSU job was the only one open... then they would replace Florida in my 50/50 stay or goes.
At some point the quality of life of Baton Rouge comes into play.

Wow, so Lane is going to both Florida & LSU. Never thought I'd live to see the day a couch would successfully work that deal.

Because he believes he can be the next Spurrier or Meyer. Kiffin knows with the resources UF has that he could rebuild that program and make them a contender for a NC on a regular basis. At Ole Miss he can make them a contender for the playoffs.
I believe he ends up at UF and when will depend on how far Ole Miss makes it. If they do not make the playoffs Kiffin will be in Gainesville before Christmas.

Ill take Lane, but ill also be just as happy with several other HCs out there who I feel would be dangerous at UF

I think Lane has all the reasons in the world to stay at Oxford and leave a legacy as “The Guy”.
He has Ole Miss positioned as a legitimate playoff contender (once you get in the playoffs anything can happen) and to my knowledge he has not had an inability to land the players he wants to Oxford.
He seems to have matured in many respects and maybe has moved around enough to realize the grass is not always greener.
That said, you do make an understandable argument and at the end of the day, Lane has never been predictable.
If he decides to leave what he’s built and take a chance then it’ll be an intriguing story to follow.
At the end of the day, even the best facilities are still no “guarantee”. If Lane goes to Gainesville or Baton Rouge and for whatever reasons, isn’t producing playoff appearances and serious runs for a Natty within relatively short order, the natives will get very restless quickly, no matter how good Lane’s social media game might be.
It’ll be taking a chance he may look back on with regret.
Will be interesting to see what he ultimately decides to do.

Just not the case anymore. 12 teams make the dance. Money gets talent and coaches maximize it.
OM may not have as much money as Florida but they have enough as evidenced by their record.
Any good team can lose 1-2 games a year. No advantage to doing that at UF instead of OM.

Rumors are he has signed an extension at OM making him around 11-12 Million per year.

You have not proven that with good HCs. LSU has (Miles, Orgeron). Florida has proven they can win a title with an Elite HC. They haven't won anything with just a good HC.
And it took Spurrier 7 years to win his first title. So I suppose that if Lane doesn't win a title next year you can argue that Florida is better than OM. But gotta give Lane at least 7 years like Spurrier needed to finally get Florida over the hump.

He has not signed an extension, which is why it hasn't been reported anywhere, despite Ole Miss trying to get him to sign one publicly.
Also, he will sign a deal that makes him the highest paid coach in the country, regardless of where it is to ($13.3m minimum)

Watch that Theo Von interview with Kiffin. He has just now gotten his family all in Oxford and his son is the 9th grade QB for the high school there. I think that plays a much bigger role in this than people think. His dad died recently there as well. He really appreciates Oxford and he knows he can win a title there. If they come up with $10/11M I think he will stay. Would be better for college football if he did IMO.

Very, very, very easy. At LSU and UF you cam win the SEC and Natties. You can't at Ole Miss.
