Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. I think OU can replace his 6 tackles. This was a Jim Nagy cut. He's not paying that much for a backup. The greatest thing about Nagy being a GM is he has no ties or emotions towards the players, he just makes business decisions. Feel bad for Stone as he's and Oklahoma kid but all players are just one year rentals now anyways.

OU has had a lot of high profile busts lately. I don’t think being a backup year 2 is what a 5 star should be doing.

I think there are several options this could be. Most blame NIL, which is party at fault. But if there was no spring portal we’d all have spring games again. And less chaos. When a spring transfer happens it can upset the apple cart and cause schools to scramble to replace. Portal needs to be after the natty and open for 1 month then closed.

As for Stone, he truly bleeds OU. This is not about him wanting to leave. Several options and we’ll eventually find out:

- Because he was 4th on depth chart he wanted more playing time and wasn’t going to get it this year

- Has an issue with his position coach (doubtful). He sent this a month ago

David “Stoney” Stone Jr.
@iamdavidstonejr
Happy Birthday @CoachToddBates #Boomer

- Nagy asked him to take a pay cut.

- Other teams offered him more money

- His family wanted him to get more money and were bleeding him dry. This one has legs. He’s young and so many of them want to pay back family and friends for supporting them during their younger years. And they get bled dry trying to pay them back so to speak. Now he gets in a situation where he can’t help parents and wants to do more and with a paycut has to go elsewhere. I do believe this is about them more than him wanting to leave.

- He is from the local area and most players love they can come back after football days and have so many followers. Can help if starting business or just the friends they make. Leaving burns a lot of bridges. And I don’t think he wants to leave.

Its always possible he is doing this to help reduce family pressure. By entering portal all the social media will rail about his family and they will see that. And maybe thats his intention to get them off his back. And then he comes back - because technically he can. Thats far fetched but I’ve read his family is bleeding him. If true I do feel for him but he also needs to tell them no, which would be growing up.

One note, lots of fans of all teams followed both the school and players. But now fans are having to choose school or player. And most are choosing school not player. Something to think about.

OU will be fine he was not a starter nor would be. But he has a high ceiling and from all accounts was the most improved player this spring. Its his future next year (year 3) that will be missed. But we’ll have time to replace him too.

I do hope he realizes the harm in leaving and reconsiders. So far nothing negative has come out from school or him so the door is still open to cancel his portal and return. Doubtful but possible

Holy shitballs! Then why is Arch still at tx? Wasn’t he a 5 star? Hasn’t he been at tx 2 years going on 3?

Your post is saying Arch is a bust. Think more before posting stupid shite lol

Great post here:

Dave Myrick
@Danny_Bigmac13

Good segment this morning

Basically, this is a blameless situation

You can’t blame OU for not wanting to spend more $ (if that’s indeed the case) due to… they see what’s what on the field, and know what they want to spend accordingly

You can’t blame other schools for offering more $ on potential they think exists

You can’t blame a player for taking it

So who gets the blame ? The system that allows it

Who suffers the consequences ? The fan. The college football fan

Untapped potential with a school, remains the case year in year out. That’s why we see guys playing for their 4th school in 5 years. There is no more growing and developing. It’s the highest offer, off to the next level

Meanwhile fans are left confused and frustrated

Again, the system isn’t a system. It’s a shitty mess.

Well in this case... Norman WAS home... well... about 15 miles away from it anyway.

Unfortunately...neither David Stone nor tBrand the Texas fan could afford a Thunder playoff ticket this year.

Who needs to think about this? Obviously (non related/mooch) fans/alums follow the school.

noted. Read that later. But the OP acts like he didn't get paid to go to OU, and he would have gone there for nothing other than education and room and board, old school stylez.

Ultimately, Stone was making 2 or 3X the money that the starter is making and couldn't beat him out. And the other DT (Strong) that got all the buzz during spring camp makes even less, and he appears to be ready for the spotlight.

You don't get to keep making 2 or 3x the money of guys that are better than you just because you had 5 stars in HS and they didn't. Those days are over.

Good luck, Mr. Stone.

As they should.

Most of these players don't give a shite about the school as we are learning, so why should the alumni care about them? It's like when a player leaves an NFL team now.

If Bijan Robinson has a great season, that's nice. But I'm not going to put my hat on it.

He didn’t want to be a part of a sub .500 team and knew the future is bleak in Norman.

Get ready to get boat raced in Norman this year.

Must be tough knowing your head coach is the most disliked guy in the conference.

NIL and the portal have destroyed college athletics. Should go back to giving them a free education and a kick in the arse. If you want millions of dollars play harder and get drafted in the NFL.

Okie message boards are saying David Stone was told he would have to take an NIL paycut. This is more about Oklahoma being poor than anything else. I am not saying better players are not on the roster, but if you can afford to do so, you keep promising 5-star players around and try to develop them. Obviously, Oklahoma is not in the tier of college football programs who can afford to do this.
