re: NIL Cap. It won't mean what you think it means

Caps coupled with a toothless NCAA that has no ability to curtail bag dropping is a horrible idea.

Clemson is going to boat race LSU this weekend.

And in games against FBS opponents, he threw for 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Y'all are excited to run him back out? Why? He's inaccurate and turns the ball over too much. He also is a statue who was 10th out of 16th in pass rating for SEC quarterbacks last year (sandwiched between guys like Pavia and Reed who can actually run the football). I just do not get it. Seems like a very pedestrian QB who racks up some yardage because LSU throws a lot.
I've seen really good LSU QBs. He ain't one of them.

OU will be lucky to win 8 in the regular season. But 8 would be massive improvement for Venables.

That's rich coming from a team whose QB has barely played any college football and is ranked #1. That last name will only carry you so far.
At least our QB has real SEC experience and put up pretty solid numbers last year.
That's kind of the point. He has a lot of experience. And has not been anything but pretty average.
Against FBS opponents (taking out Nicholls State), he had 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He played like shite against A&M, Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina. I just don't understand why people think he is good. He has a long track record of 31 games played and being mediocre.
He throws too many interceptions and is not very accurate despite playing with great receivers (62% career completion %)
Arch has to prove it. But he played well when called upon last year.

Why do people think Nussmeier is good? I have watched him play quite a bit and he seems like a JAG.

I still say TU got a pass on the first 2 years in scheduling in the SEC. Forget out of conference games and look at SEC only.
Not our fault A&M, OU and Arkansas all suck.
A&M's regular season schedule was just as easy. Only difference is you played us and we played you.

I think with Lagway they can be really good. I have no confidence he will stay healthy.

Bama schedules legit teams regularly and has a legit P4 opponent already that year. Half the SEC schools do this. The other half schedule like scared little girls.

The score was 13-0 with 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.
Yes, you had back to back good drives after that.. but you hadn't been doing anything up that point.
But Arkansas was driving man! They had 9 yards. Texas' D-line whipped Arkansas, sacking the QB 6 times and shutting down their running game. Game was never in doubt. Texas led 10-0 at halftime and slept walked to a ten point win while running out the clock taking a knee in scoring position.

Except Arkansas is 4-3 against UT since Arkansas left the SWC, and spanked UT going out the door.
An interception on a deflection by the Arkansas receiver (Broden couldn't catch a ball if you tossed it from two feet) on Arkansas' first possession last year most likely turned that game completely around. Arkansas driving, UT int and scores for a 20-10 final score.
Texas played a C game and won by 10 while kneeling the ball at the end of the game to run out the clock in field goal range. Texas ran the last 7 minutes off the clock with Arkansas powerless to do shite to stop us. Texas controlled the entire game and Arkansas had no answer for the Texas defense.
Texas will win 70 percent of the time against Arkansas like we have historically. Might even be worse given it is the NIL era. Even though Arkansas cares a lot more about Texas than Texas does about Arkansas.

So it was supposed to be played twice in 12 years?

9 game conference schedule. 3 permanent rivals. Play the other 6 home and home and then rotate.
A 4 year player plays every SEC team at least twice, once at home and once on road.
You avoid ridiculousness like A&M being in the conference since 2012 and having played Georgie 1 time.

re: 1970 National Champs - Texas claims
Posted by houstonearler on 8/21/25 at 9:53 am to MizzouTrue
Bowl games were considered more like exhibition games back then. A reward for a good season. I think the AP only started voting after bowl games in 1968 and the UPI/Coaches in 1975.
There are plenty of AP and UPI/Coaches poll #1s who lost their bowl game. Every single one was a national champion based on the system at the time.
1960 Minnesota
1964 Alabama (lost to Texas but still AP #1)
1965 Michigan State (UP)
1970 Texas
1973 Alabama (UPI champ but lost to Notre Dame in Sugar Bowl)
Non playoff bowl games now are now turning back into exhibition games.
