I think it was more Nuss not trusting his protections. Every time he faced any kind of pressure he either had happy feet & threw it away or checked down. That obviously could be a major issue if he doesn’t clean it up.

It could also be a factor of not having WR's getting open on deeper routes. Let's not forget all the pass catchers LSU lost from last year.

We were also without Chris Hilton and Kyle Parker because of injury.

gameplan or QB choice

Some of each. On a crucial third down late, he had a man open downfield but threw to the checkdown too quickly with no rush bearing down. Almost every pass play has a checkdown option, Nuss was just going to it too often.

Lsu needs a run game, defense and running attacks travel.

The more concerning thing is LSU being completely unable to run the ball with 2 high safeties all night.

Gameplan. Two fast WRs out, and an expectation that we would run at will on USC. Makes sense to play for the short game and pull the safeties out of two-high so the long balls will be easier for the WRs who aren’t as capable deep threats.

Still think there should have been more shots taken though. Especially when we learned we couldn’t run the ball that well.

it was a complete 180 from the Nuss we saw in the bowl game. That is completely on the coaches

That was certainly a bit shocking. LSU wasn't a great straight run team last year (non-QB involved stuff or QB runs), but you still expected them to be pretty solid at this year (especially against SC).

Credit to SC, though. They had big bodies who fought like hell at the LOS.

Both defense were playing bend but don’t break. Give you short underneath stuff but nothing over the top. Dan Mullen talked about it a lot.

Coaches fricked this whole game up.

It was the most conservative bull shite I’ve ever seen.

Am I still mad? Yes.

Purely scheme, watch the game outside of the red zone. USC basically lined up 10-15 yards! off the receivers.

They were basically begging him to just eat up short passes and dink and dunk down the field. Once they got into the red zone the cushion went away and they pressured.

USC did not think they could cover deep, so the classic bend but dont break. LSU could not do much about it because the basic run game is pretty awful vanilla without a running QB to run the BK offense.

With how much of a gun slinger he’s been in the past, I have to think it was intentional by the coaches.

I agree but his gunslinger mentality is why I liked him.

On one third down, he made a long throw across the field to a receiver who was short of the first down when he had a guy open down the middle beyond the first down.

Some of it seemed to be play calls, but some of it also seemed to be bad reads.
