I think I’ve seen this movie before. Let’s see…yep it was 2010, right before Saban reeled off 5 more national championships. Or maybe it was 2013 just after Kick Six when Cowherd said Gus Malzahn would win more national championships than Saban and run him out of the SEC. Or it could have been after Clemson stomped Bama in the 2018 NC game and then Saban went undefeated in 2020 to win a 6th NC at Bama.

Keep ‘em coming! Very entertaining!

Can anyone point to any concrete reason Bama should improve?

You never know, but step 1 is getting BoB out, and the possibilities could be endless.

Milroe and Simpson are both talented, and with the right coaching, we should be ok there. Never know with QBs though.

Our WRs haven't played like shite all season. They've been mediocre but most of them are freshmen and sophomores. They have obvious talent.

Not sure about OL, they haven't been great this season, so there is a lot of room for improvement.

TE Latu gone.

We have some highly recruited freshmen TEs on our roster. Way too early to say one of them can't be good.

quote:

HB Gibbs likely gone.

RB isn't really a concern at all IMO. Gibbs is a damn good player, but he hasn't struck me as a 3 down RB. Jamarion Miller IMO will be a stud. Can't wait to see him get carries.

Losing a minimum of 7 defensive starters including Will Anderson.

Next man up. Its not like they were all that great this year. Maybe that's because of Golding, but we have talented guys on our roster.

quote:

Saban another year older. Same DC likely. Maybe stuck with Obrien again.

Keyword here is "Saban." Yes, he's older, but there isn't anyone else I'd rather have as our coach.

Its kind of dumb to panic this early. We've been in similar situations plenty the last decade, and we've been fine.

While I agree, the transfer portal changes things on this front.

That’s because he had Young throwing to Williams and Metchie and did nothing to adapt when those two were no longer available.

He’s great when he’s got a talent advantage at every skill position but refused to change things up.

I think your post only reinforces what I'm arguing. Alabama no longer has a talent advantage at many skill positions. That alone should be the story here. So without a large talent gap on offense, and a defense that has struggled all season, Alabama's offense has kept up enough to be 8-2 with both losses occurring on the last play of the game with Bama leading or tied (defense couldn't make the stop). People are so used to Bama having 1st round receivers and OL dominating all over the field that they are now shouting at Obrien as if he's the problem when, surprise, we don't look like the Miami Dolphin's offense out there.

You’re signing the number 1 class and will steal at least 3 first round prospects in the portal. Bama will be fine, but you’re never seeing prime dynasty bama again

One thing to note about teams that recruit like Bama does is that sometimes the big boost that comes in is a freshman or sophomore who took some time to learn the college scheme.

Bama has a ton of talented players, so it wouldn't be surprising if a guy like Bond or Prentice takes a leap next year at WR or Simpson is great at QB or if Haynes or Young come in as instant studs at RB.

I actually think the loss of some star power could be a good thing for Alabama. Kind of an attitude reset. That’s no slight to Young or Anderson, but it just seems to me that Alabama has gotten in a habit of leaning too hard on the QB. That’s fine if you have game breakers at WR to make it easier, but it’s tough when you don’t have those guys.

Gotta think they'll get a QB in the portal.

Taulia still has a year left of eligibility. Saban would love to bring him back.

My post reinforces the point that BoB is a hinderance.
Alabama may not have been significantly more talented than the other teams, but there was still more talent overall, especially against some teams we should have rolled over.

If you're loaded with 4* instead of 5* and you're saying it's the player's fault we're not beating A&M by more than one score? Yeah, no.

Alabama has recruited well enough for long enough that they will still field one of the most talented teams in the country.

I think what was happened is that other teams have caught up, is just not Alabama sliding.

I agree. Lots of folks can't see past their nose. Alabama's still loaded with 4* and 5* talent up and down the roster, and I'm pretty sure Saban knows how to put a championship team together with a little talent.

If we were willing to commit to a true UGA style reset of our entire team philosophy, I would agree that Bama would be better as a power run, dominant D, old school team. But we have shifted far away from that and I'm not sure you can re-establish that type of mindset with the same success, especially not in one season.

Everything will work out for Bama 1 or 2 bad seasons . You guys will come back stronger than ever. Until Saben retires anyway

Maybe, but really it comes down to executing properly to put teams that we have on the ropes away, and making the big plays in close games to seal victories. We've been ok at doing the latter the last two seasons, but the we have failed to do the former. The opportunities have been there.

Would not count bama out. You have to imagine there is a sense of urgency and determination on Saban's part to get things right. He has to know he's nearing the end and I imagine he wants to go out on top and I think he's got enough left in him to get it done. Especially with the portal.
