As a reminder of how good these defenses were, LSU did not score a touchdown in 2 games and an overtime period. Bama only scored 1 touchdown. With an inept offense like we had it amazes me how bama only scored 1 touchdown. A testament to both defenses for sure.

I'm actually not that sure that LSU beats Okie State with JJ at QB, the offense was just so bad at that point. West Virginia was a similar team to Okie State and they put up a ton of yards on us, they just had 5 turnovers and I believe we had a kickoff return TD. Less' "formula" of doing as little as possible on offense and getting bailed out by big plays on defense and special teams wasn't sustainable

Disagree on this one. Their defense sucked. I think we would have beat them badly.

Uh, no. The team that got in as a 3rd place SEC team WAS the "alternative." According to the then BCS agreed-upon-rules, SOS was supposedly a large criterium

The BCS formula was changed many times. By the time of this game it was simply three parts. One third coaches poll, one third Harris poll (after the AP told them they couldn't use it anymore) and the final component was the 6 computer polls. For that part is was Olympic style in the your highest and lowest ranking were dropped. At one point strength of schedule, margin of victory, etc. were all big parts of the that. Over time it was lowered and lowered after teams like Auburn were left out of the title game in 2004 (because of their non conference schedule) and non automatic qualifying schools like Utah, TCU, and Boise complained they were being unfairly left out for the same reason.

For the record Jeff Sagrin is one of the guys who had a computer poll in the BCS formula that year. His rankings had Oklahoma State's SOS at #3 and Alabama's at #15. Considering there were over 120 FBS schools at the time, that's not "VASTLY SUPERIOR" as you claim.

Your upvote-downvote count is 21-0.

Quick story. I talked to two LSU fans in Tuscaloosa after LSU won the title in ‘07. They told me even though they were happy winning the national championship, we know we’re stuck with Les Miles for a long time. I have a feeling he’ll screw us in a couple games down the road and probably a big one.

How right they were.

I hate that game for LSU's defense. They were amazing. But Les' pathetic game plan on offense put them behind the 8-ball the whole game. Shame their last game was a 21-0 loss.

Congrats to Alabama as they dominated. But that LSU team was pretty darn good, too.

That game only went to OT because Alabama missed 3 field goals.

You do realize you can try a field goal from your own 4 yard line? One of those they missed was in OT when McCarron was sacked on 3rd down past the 30.

Well aware. The point is Alabama was consistently able to get into FG range all night. LSU couldn't. If Alabama kickers didn't shite the bed all the time Alabama likely has two more SEC Championships (11&13) and quite possibly another NC (I think they would have defeated FSU), but who knows. My point as always been LSU fans acted like that game was close. Maybe score wise, but Alabama still but twice as many potential scoring drives that night. Alabama won 2/3 phases that night. But obviously doing that doesn't guarantee a win.

LSU actually had more snaps inside the 20. Also, as much as you want to complain about the int, LSU missed a huge opportunity for a TD right before the half when Russel Shepard couldn't keep his feet inside the 10.

I don't think there should have been a rematch but you gotta respect Alabama's preparation and execution. They looked like a completely different team than the one that lost two months previously.

And LSU looked the exact same...running the exact same offense.
