The longest FG Alabama attempted was 52 yards.

I had no faith going into the rematch. LSU had no first downs in the entire 1st half against UGA. Miles' two brain cells had both agreed that he could just play not to lose on offense until a big play went our way on D or special teams. Y'all would've won with 3 pts as it turned out, but I have to give credit to your offensive staff for having enough faith in soph McCarron to come out throwing it to loosen up our defense. And that was a team without the awesome receivers that Saban usually has had. Hanks and Maze were good not great

Interesting scenario: who wins the West if Arkansas had beaten us and all three finished at 11-1? I think they would've done so without Mathieu's punt return (ditto for UGA a week later). Neither them nor UGA would've beaten Bama but they had enough offense to make it a better game. Arkansas really missed Knile Davis in the running game

It had to do with the BCS rankings. It likely would have been Bama.

It would have never happened, but if you really wanted to make it fair LSU and Alabama should have played a third time. As it was, Alabama got to play an easier schedule, skip the conference championship, and only beat LSU once to be champs while LSU had to go 2-0.

The alternative was an Okie State team that got to play an easier schedule, skip the conference championship, and only beat LSU once to be champs

Yep. The rule was in a three way tie you took the one ranked highest in the BCS standings.Alabama would have likely been #1. The only way LSU would have won in that situation is if they had somehow stayed above Arkansas.

As a result of this all SEC final we got the 4 team playoff. Big 10 Pac 12 were against it but quickly changed their tune with this matchup. SEC Commish Slive always wanted it. I always disliked having just 2 teams with a chance. Over the yrs so many different champions we probably would've had had it been put in yrs ago.

Actually if LSU throws the game against Georgia, Bama would have been out. Most voters agreed that two teams that didn’t win the SEC would not play for the championship. Voters were not putting in Bama after losing to LSU and not playing in an SEC. LSU would’ve then beat whoever, likely okie St for another ship.

I’ve seen the Minkah vs Honey Badger comparison get laughed at a couple times in here. It’s actually not a laughable comparison

Only comparing their Fr and Sophomore years, defense only:

Badger - 133 tackles, 4 ints, 0 tds, 16 pds, 11 ff, 2 tds

Minkah - 111 tackles, 8 ints, 4 tds, 17 pds, 1 ff

Badger excelled at forcing fumbles while Minkah was a pick 6 threat. Even if you count special teams too, Minkah scored more TDs due to his block punt TD. But the Badg’s ability for forcing fumbles was unreal.

The Crimson Tide would go on to beat LSU 7 more straight times before the crazy streak was snapped on 11/9/19.
Thankfully for Tigah nation Bama didn't recover that onside kick last season.
We look forward to many more classic battles.

We never would've had 2019 if we didn't have 1/9/12.

Luckily for Tide nation, Dave Aranda was our DC and gave the Tide reason for hope at the end.

While this game still stings, I can appreciate that Bama team and what Bama in general has accomplished more now that we were able to win it all with Saban still there.

Uh, no. The team that got in as a 3rd place SEC team WAS the "alternative." According to the then BCS agreed-upon-rules, SOS was supposedly a large criterium. Oklahoma State's SOS was VASTLY SUPERIOR to ala's. Oklahoma State also destroyed former #1 Oklahoma in the Big 12 Title game, thus winning a conference championship. ala. finished third in the SEC.
Additionally, 7 BCS 'human poll' voters (coaches) actually """""""""""""""""D R O P P E D """"""""""""""" Oklahoma State in the BCS rankings """""""""" A F T E R """""""" they beat Oklahoma, and voted ala. AHEAD of them !!!!

Okla State also didn't have their head coach fly to New York to lobby for his team. Why would he? His team was Big 12 Champions, with a much more difficult SOS than ala., and the BCS agreed-upon-rules and criteria would HAVE TO BE FOLLOWED.

But they weren't......

LSU beat Alabama 9-6 mostly due to Alabama missing FGs the entire game, and a bad int call at the goal line.

I do love how revisionist LSU fans are about the 9-6 game. That game only went to OT because Alabama missed 3 field goals.

Isn't it a shame all three phase of the game count?
quote:

To their credit they won, but LSU should have lost that game.
Why because we couldn't find the endzone? I don't see any safties in the box score, so why exactly should the mighty tide be the obvious winner? Saban got out coached that night. he made up for it obviously. but if anyone has revisionist history issues, it's yall.

The Big 12 did not have a conference title game that year but nice framing

Props to them for choosing the better team

Irrelevant

Why would he? His team was Big 12 Champions

Even more irrelevant

On a mid November Friday night game, 27 point underdog Iowa State upset Oklahoma State.
If this doesn't happen, LSU simply plays their power ball, run it down your throat, controlling time of possession game, beating Oklahoma State for the 2011 National Championship.
That would have been 2 titles for Les.
He may still be on the Tiger sidelines having a grass snack in the middle of a big game.
Gotta have breaks many years to win a National Championship.
Iowa State delivered that 1 BIG break for my team on that Friday night shocker.
Pittsburgh upsetting West Virginia in 07 gave 2 loss LSU the break it needed that year to win it all.
