The Super Dome is dated and it's getting worse all the time. The GA Dome is already a better venue and just a few years away from being totally revamped. Atlanta is a much more centralized location than New Orleans. Plus Atlanta doesn't smell like raw sewage.

The new NFL stadiums are interesting. JerryWorld is a great venue obviously, but once others are similarly "nice" it is going to seem extremely boring. Boring building in a parking lot in boring arse Arlington.
SF's stadium is a lesson in what not to do. That thing is a travesty. Atlanta will have a flashy absurd stadium everyone wants to see but will be bizarre and dumb in a decade. They're basically building a modern Olympic opening ceremony stadium, IMO.

What the frick are you getting at?
It would be cool as hell to rotate the SEC Champ game.
NOLA, ATL, STL, HOU, DAL, NASH

No chance we devote 3 cities in a 6 city rotation to the newest additions to the conference.

They just updated it and it hosts Super Bowls consistently

Agree with this, only major advantage it has over New Orleans.

Please enjoy other parts of the city next time you are in town instead of shitty Bourbon Street. Check out uptown or the garden district.

Then we will tear it down in 15 years and build a newer, more expensive, more flashy stadium. It's what Atlanta does.

Same problem Atlanta has.

I think people view the event differently. A lot of people make a day trip or quick overnight trip to the SECCG. It's not a vacation trip like the Sugar Bowl often is. Atlanta is much more efficient and practical for such an event, IMO.

at you suggesting Houston or anywhere in Texas for that matter.
I didn't suggest it. The OP did.
Houston hosts big events as well as anyone else. Plain and simple. That is why they keep coming back.
Look at recent history
Super Bowl
04
17
NBA All Star
06
13
MLB All Star
04
Final Four/Regional Finals
08
10
11 (FF)
16 (FF)
Big XII
02
05
Texas Kickoff Game
Yearly since ~10
Wrestlemania
09
Houston also hosts the biggest livestock show and radio every single year.

Houston would be fine if we were rotating, but there just isn't any compelling reason to move away from Atlanta or rotate the event.

I love NOLA but is sucks for sporting events when the airport makes travel difficult and they gouge for event lodging for fans. Sure the media raves, but the media does not have to pay an arm and a leg for their rooms either.
Saint Louis is a fun town but not for travel in December. If this was a baseball discussion great, but this is about football.
Houston is probably the best potential SEC city in TX but that does not mean the SEC CCG should be held there
Dallas is Big 12 city and f*ck JerryWorld! Seriously, f*ck JerryWorld...
Nashville will be great for basketball and the city is a great destination. Look I love Nashville and would love to see it there, but even I will admit it would suck compared to ATL for a SEC CCG.

Atlanta is the capital of the south and has the resources and infrastructure to handle a large event like the SECCG every year. The location is reasonably close to every SEC school excluding the two new western additions and LSU to some degree. It makes sense.
Sure New Orleans, Nashville, or Houston could host it as well but Atlanta is a great place to host it. I just don't see the need to make it rotate.

I don't know why, but this is one of the few "offseason" topics that I enjoy and post in almost every time it comes up.
IMO, New Orleans is the best city in the South (and arguably in the country) for hosting major sporting events. I have been to a bunch and I absolutely loved the Sugar Bowl (which was before I lived in NOLA).
That being said, Atlanta makes the most sense for the SECCG. Having the event in the same place every years gives it more of a feeling of tradition and history. And Atlanta is fairly centrally located and has a huge airport for the fans who don't want to drive. The SECCG has been there for over twenty years. They are building a new domed stadium. It really is the center of the CFB world at this point, esp w/ the new CFB HOF.
Anywhere in Texas in too out of the way for most of the conference. St. Louis is even worse geographically.
From a location standpoint Birmingham makes sense, but there is no infrastructure. Nashville would actually be pretty sweet if they had a dome. People prefer domes for more corporate events like this. And as I said before I love NOLA, but it has the Sugar Bowl and is less centrally located than Atlanta.

If it equates to more money in the pot it'll happen eventually.
Do you own a hotel in ATL?

Houston needs to expand the metrorail or somehow be able to add a lot more trains to make it more capable of handling gameday crowds. It was a nightmare trying to get back downtown after the opener this season.

What?

New Orleans is by far known as the best place to host a big event. You can walk everywhere. There's a reason countless super bowls and ncaa championships were hosted there.

I tend to agree but I'm as biased as you are. The centralization of the Dome with the Quarter, hotels, and Uptown/Garden District make it a great place to host big events. Many hotels within walking distance. Great food and entertainment within walking distance of the hotels and the Dome. The lax alcohol laws don't hurt things a bit either.

Agreed. Central location. Big city with big city infrastructure. Stadium located nicely relative to other attractions. Good reasons why it won't and should not move.
