Long post, but want to get thoughts on potential scenarios.

1). No staff changes at all. Program morale is at time low entering 2019
- what record gets Luke fired? 6-6 or worse?

2). New OC and DC (along with various position coaches). Morale isn’t much better unless one of the coordinators is a true “splash” hire (and the odds of that are low)
- what record gets Luke fired? Do new coordinators afford him extra time (it shouldn’t)

Regardless, Luke would have to go 7-5 at a minimum next year to keep the job, and I don’t see that happening. And that’s being generous: it should be closer to 8-4 to keep the job in year 3.

Staff changes aren’t going to fire up the fans, and at best, will only prolong the inevitable (and likely cost more money along the way. Why pay a DC a premium to come for a year to get fired a year later)

If it’s a foregone conclusion that he’s fired next year, why wait and watch the program/fans/money/etc continue to deteriorate in front of our eyes?

It makes more sense to fire the entire staff today than bring in two new coordinators who aren't going to be worth a damn, knowing they'll be bounced at the end of 2019. I wouldn't come here for anything knowing that's on the table. Unless there's some kind of miracle working offensive and defensive coordinators out there just waiting for one season to turn a program around. This is silly.

Why prolong the process? So we know we're firing Luke in a year any way, why wait? What's the justification by Ole Miss to put that off? Because Luke hasn't been given a chance? He needs to get "his guys" in there? No. Not a good enough reason to pour more money down the drain. Pay him off and go get someone and be done with it. How much more are they going to lose next season by keeping him around? I bet it's more than what they're paying him now.

I couldn't think of a worse way to manage a sinking ship than to wait another year until it's completely underwater and the program has been depth charged to pieces.

If that happens, Bjork better fire his arse like Boone did Cutcliffe when he refused to fire his staff.

They won't sell 20k season tickets next year if nothing changes

Because the fat old sack of shite boosters got their golden boy in the driver seat and Bjork is looking for money to come from anywhere right now since we had to pay the NCAA fine and get no bowl revenue from the SEC.

Not doubting you, but what is the thinking behind this? Rather be buddies with the losing coach, than to have a winning outsider? I don’t get it.

If your car’s transmission is going out and the brakes are shot, what good does putting new tires on it do?

The argument is that the boosters could care less about seriously winning and are more-so happy with mediocre-to-average seasons as long as they have their insular Grove gameday experience, unfettered access to the program, and various opportunities to flaunt their big fish/small pond socialite status.

Because those new tires just love your car, just like their daddy and brother before them.

We fire McGriff and Longo and hire Kurt Roper and Dave Wommack and probably sign a 4 year contract even though they will be fired after the season

Buyouts for McGriff and Longo, then more buyouts to fire the new staff a year later.

1 staff buyout is better than buying out 2 staffs

Boosters hate him too don’t worry. He’s not good enough to try to ingratiate himself with the big money guys like Nutt was to insulate himself. Luke has the weirdest job security all because of a guy who should’ve fired Luke years ago was too stupid to delete his browser history essentially

I dont think people understand how bad we are going to be next year. I laugh when people say we might go 6-6. We are losing to Memphis right out the gate. I seriously think we go 2-10.

When this happens the 5% of the fan base still engaged with Luke will finally be done and Ross will see it but it’ll be too late.

I really don't think Freeze was allowed to fire Luke.

This would require someone to make a big boy decision in the athletic department. We don’t really have anyone that can do that at the moment. They would rather sit on their hands and watch the building burn rather than fix it before it is a total loss.

If I were an Ole Miss fan I would almost hope that Luke just loses out for a while and is shown the door.

Freeze could’ve done almost whatever he wanted regarding staffing. Carte Blanche that most coaches rarely receive. He chose to retain loyalists and men who wouldn’t even help recruit the players they would be coordinating.

I'm just happy that we're being given the chance to witness one man's dream come true.
