Someone tell me why we shouldn’t offer Mike Leach $4.5m/yr to coach the Rebals?

There is no doubt he would sustain consistent success in Oxford.

8 consecutive 8+ win seasons at Texas Tech
4 consecutive (and counting) 8 win seasons at Wazzou

He has a Heisman finalist QB . . . . from Olive Branch of all places.

Tell me why I am wrong. If we don’t try to hire this man, we are fools.

Can't hire someone when Matt Luke is going to be our HC next year

He’s proven he can win with inferior talent in 2 different leagues. Imagine what he’d be able to do with an SEC budget and SEC bagmen.

Give him a blank check for a DC and let him get to work.

A) Minshew is from Brandon
B) Pac 12 outside of Utah and Cal don't play defense
C) I'd rather Babers. He competes (and wins big games) in the ACC with lesser talent. Also if you look at Syracuse defense they are physical and built. The last few years our defense has looked like puny runts. Never thought I would question Paul Jackson, but here I am.

Probably what we're doing now. Throw the ball a million times and play no defense. Turns out it doesn't win a whole lot of meaningful games in SEC.

I like Dino, but he has only won one big game against a team without its QB. Furthermore, they went 4-8 that season. They went 4-8 the year before that too.

His best win this year is against a 6-3 NC State team. They’re good, and I’m certainly pulling for them Saturday, but Dino has done nothing but beat bad ACC teams this year.

We would win 8-9 games this year with the pirate at the helm

No we wouldnt.

He sucks at recruiting. He's worse than Luke at recruiting.

The talent he has gotten would get destroyed in this league.

Name one coach that could recruit to Washington state other than Saban

Ive been asking for Leach before we hired Freeze. He needs a defensive coordinator. He would be a HOME RUN in my book.

So what we hire a defensive minded coach? Besides Saban I cant think of any defensive minded head coaches I would want as my HC.

I guess what I am saying is you are correct. I think nearly anyone would be better than Luke and the recruits know it.

That alleged talent disadvantage never stopped him from sustaining consistent, and sometimes high level, success in Lubbock and Pullman.

But okay, keep clamoring for someone who recruits at an extremely high level.

I'd take him. Run the experiment for few years, if it worked out then great, if not move on to someone else.

Problem is, boosters are fine with their country club picnic on campus and having one of their guys at the helm with successive mediocre seasons. Luke is the perfect embodiment of this, and as such, he'll be here indefinitely since nobody is about to even entertain the idea of hiring him away at ~3 mil/year.

Mike has won everywhere he has been. Maybe unconventionally, but he’s won nonetheless.

If I’m Bjork, he’d have to tell us no.

Granted, it will take him 3-4 years to get going here, assuming he could do it.

So a pass offense guru with 2 first round draft picks at receiver, a solid offensive line that includes a first round left tackle and a solid senior QB wouldn't win 8-9 games? Ok

He was at Texas Tech and now he's at Washington State.
Nobody can recruit to either of those schools

Somewhat OT but college coaches shouldn't earn 4.5m. Way too much. If that's the case there should be HS coaches earning 1m.

In Texas there is probably a few that earn close to that amount. Their HS stadiums look better than most JUCO stadiums in MS.

I would like to see Venables from Clemson. He's already making over 2 million a year at Clemson as the DC and LB coach.

He is coming from a school that has a successful recruiting program and other than stealing a big name head coach away from someone else, we could probably lure him away from Clemson. He may be tired of seeing all of Saban's assistants getting head coaching jobs?

I’d be ok with Leach but think we should give Ryan Day a look.
Pro experience and experience at a major college program.
We need a top level QB to compete and I think his background
helps in that need. Affordable too.
