The arm race of football spending is caused by stupidity. Fans sold their children's future to create a monster out of their control.
Look at ivy schools, look at Vanderbilt. Why don't they spend more money on football? Are they dumb or poor?

There’s a reason that at the time, he resigned without saying a word, did not put up any sort of fight for his (iirc) $15 million buyout, and allowed the administration and everyone else to drag him through the mud afterwards.
Here’s some hints, it wasn’t because he was sorry for his sins, and it wasn’t because he personally had some chronic hooker addiction.

It's already been aired, but forgotten by this board. His actions got Ole Miss major NCAA penalties. He / his staff paid players, helped at least one recruit on an entrance exam, etc. It was a lack of institutional control. He didn't get his buyout because of the NCAA infractions, not the hookers. Our NCAA penalties were because of the recruiting violations, not the hookers. People remember the escorts, but under his time as HC the staff committed multiple major NCAA infractions.
ETA: and to get out ahead of the "everyone does that defense" - even if true Hugh, through his actions and general holier than thou attitude, put a target in our back and essentially asked to get investigated.

I don't remember Freeze being directly implicated. I wonder why the NCAA let him coach Liberty if that is true.

After 5+ years of investigating, they weren't able to find anything significant on Freeze.
And they sure as frick wanted to find something on him. It was beyond personal.
