re: Official 2019 Ole Miss Baseball Thread: 14-6 (2-1) - W 12-2 - NEXT UP: Ark. Pine Bluff
never been a huge fan of his (i know he has a good average), and i think his approach would work best in the middle of the lineup. i understand batting him earlier, but for me i think he does the same thing as last season and goes ice cold

You’re not a big fan of one of our best players? WTF?

Also, you’re just wildly speculating (for no reason) that he will enter into a season-long slump starting soon? Also WTF

Well, for one, if he was one of our best players he wouldn't be playing college baseball as a Senior. He is way too aggressive at the plate to bat one or two. For his approach, I think he works best farther down the lineup. I felt the same about him last year and I feel the same this year. I do have reason for speculating that his average will tank some because it happened last year also. Its not like I want to bench him, I'd just like to bat him 6th. Also, Bianco has him 5th in the lineup today so not far off from me Also, I think if he wasn't in our two hole while he was slumping last year, we have a much greater chance of making it to Omaha.

He had like a 22 game hit streak last year and has a hit in every game but 1 or 2 this year. Also he's 10 or so doubles away from the school record. He's for sure a top 3 bat on this loaded offense. I would be in favor or going Anthony Keenan Dillard then Ryan. You bracket Dillard with 2 other premier bats and you can't really pitch around him.

Yes the ACCN guys were trash to me yesterday. He was 6th, almost 7th, in OPS last year on our team. I think 5-6 is the perfect spot for him in our lineup. I know its an unpopular opinion, but its how I feel about him. He averages around 2-3 pitches per at bat and is way too aggressive

I know he doesn't eat a ton of pitches but thats only a major need at the 1 hole, maybe 2. Which is why Grae was there for so long. After that, if you've got a bat, I'm all for a green light all the time

There's always a debate between having all your best hitters at the top and leaving the bottom of the order to amounting to a potential easy inning for the opponent every third inning. That said, I think it's definitely time to tinker with Kessinger hitting a little lower for a while at least and Cockrell and Keenan could be a good deal better. Especially Cockrell (not one bomb in 16 games) and hitting just .220. And I certainly had hopes that Fitzsimmons would give us more. But it's early. A whole lot can and will change.

I'll go ahead and beat the rush, and be the first to say we didn't get enough out of that first inning.

Just gonna say Cioffi ain't the answer today too. He's lucky Olenek made that catch last inning and already walked 2 in the 2nd.

That's at least four free passes (two walks and two hit by pitch) in one inning of baseball since there are no outs yet in the second.

Bianco was chewing his arse out when he walked the first guy and went up 2-0 on the next one.

I get that it's too early to be trashing our pitching coach, but serious question... who is our pitching coach? If it's all Bianco, I question why just like I have in recent years. I don't see other team's head coach marching out to the mound all the time like Bianco. He has enough to worry about without completely running all the pitching. This is a role he needs to find help with whether it's going great or not.

I think its mostly done by Bianco, with Lafferty helping out. Lafferty is essential with recruiting so I am not sure how they would work that out.

To be honest, Im not too worried about our pitching... yet. Today, we threw a guy who was not ready after an injury and it showed. Ethridge has looked good so far. Phillips and Hoglund have looked better the last two weekend. Nikhazy has looked good the two past weekends. I think we are going to be ok from a pitching standpoint.
