He was promised the qb spot according to some on this board. If he's told to play rb or slot, does he walk? I can't see Kiffin starting a qb that can't complete a simple screen pass. as good as he is at running, he's equally bad at passing. RR had a run first spread so that worked out. Kiffin's game looks much more like Freeze's.

Kiffin is still in the process of completing his staff, but brought running backs coach Kevin Smith and strength coach Wilson Love with him from Florida Atlantic. Monte Kiffin will help out as a defensive analyst, a role Monte also filled at FAU.

I wasn’t aware of this. Had anyone else heard this yet?

I assumed he would as he has assisted Lane in the past

I’m sure Monte has done this his whole life. I can just see him in a lazy boy with a tablet watching film.

I think Kiffin will sit him down at some point in the fall or summer when he’s 3rd on the depth chart and ask him if he wants to play back up QB and ride the pine or play in games as a change of pace QB or RB/slot guy. Plumlee might not want to hear it but I think with spring Corral and Tisdale will have significant advantage over him.

Don't discount the fact he has a lot of time to work on his accuracy. He was a true freshman. He's got a lot of room to improve.

ETA: We shouldn't expect to see 2019 Plumlee in 2020.

Here's the thing though, we don't know what he can look like as a passer bc he's never had 1.) an actual QB coach (and Kiffin literally took blake sims and went to the playoffs) 2.) Rich Rod never even let him throw and when he did there was only typically 3 receivers running routes. Thats insanely stupid imo

and TBH he looked good throwing in the egg bowl

I agree and who knows but man most of the time last year I thought I could pass better.

Blake Sims had a really strong and accurate enough arm. Right now Plumlee has neither. He did look a little better in the eggbowl though.

Sims was playing RB at Bama and nobody ever thought he would play QB at Bama. If Kiffin can turn Plumlee into an above average passer he will be one of the best QBs in the country. Plumlee needs to drop baseball and go all in on football this offseason. If he is playing baseball he won’t be starting against Baylor to open the season.

nah. He chose us because of baseball. Let him play, if he falls behind the other two on the depth chart because of it then so be it. He’ll be able to help on the diamond. Plus he showed everyone this year that you can’t keep him off the field, so i feel like even if he isn’t the starting qb against Baylor he’ll definitely be getting a significant amount of time.

Hell if I was the oc I’d try to find a way to have Matt, Ealy and JRP on the field at the same time. Just run trick plays every down, never know which of the three will throw or run it. But then again I guess that’s why I’m not qualified to be a coach lol

Exactly. As a true freshman he already has elite speed, agility and acceleration. I’m sure we’ll be looking for any way we can to get him the ball in open space.

he’s just asking for some advice. I mean what would people do if he came back as OC? hahaha

There is no way in hell the SEC would sign off on it. Although, I think Kiffin could still say "frick off" and still hire him.

It would set up the future perfectly. If Kiffin left, just slide Freeze back into the HC position.

In all seriousness though, there's no way in hell Freeze is hired. I would be stunned if that's what the meeting was about
