Once this 2016 class exits completely and if he doesn't recruit more effectively, a seven win season is a pipe dream.

He will get at least 3 years to sink the ship before they boot him.

I hope we go 0-12 so we can just go ahead and fire him this year

You and me both. I've never cheered for Ole Miss to lose but unless he is winning 9+ I want him to lose a lot very quickly

I think it's probably for the best that he's gone sooner rather than later unless he shows significant improvement on the field this year, but I've never understood why, while Ole Miss endures the ramifications of the NCAA, Matt Luke is getting held to a standard we've only achieved 7 times since the end of Vietnam. Like, 9+ wins would undisputably be one of the 10 best seasons we've had since the Vietnam War ended

Because if you don’t hold someone to high standards you will continue down the road of mediocrity.

Someone please tell me who this coach is that is going to be so awesome at Ole Miss that we want our present head coach to fail.

Unless the coach has some Mississippi ties, it's going to be near impossible for Ole Miss to sustain any long term success.

Do any of you see a pattern here? Hugh Freeze should have been the guy for Ole Miss' long term success. But he somehow sabotaged his tenure at Ole Miss by calling a phone sex service. Really, that doesn't sound suspicious to anyone?

Alabama had a plan. Destroy Ole Miss football, hire Hugh Freeze to take over for Satan and take all the top talent in Mississippi over the next 3 years, starting in 2016.

All it took was Mullen to do their dirty work that the NCAA could not do alone. Now Mullen is in the East and doesn't have to deal with Bama stealing the Mississippi recruits and Ole Miss can't get the pick of the liter in Mississippi due to probation.

The SEC got what it wanted. Bama got what they wanted. Hugh Freeze got what he wanted. And Mullen finally got out of Starkville.

Ole Miss is left wiping off the egg from their faces, made to look like the only team in college football that has ever given out any impermissible benefits.

Hate on Luke all you want. He may never win more than 8 regular season games, but he won't have many sub 500 seasons either. But what we do know is any time Ole Miss wins more than is allow by Alabama and the SEC office, the NCAA will come calling and slap us down where they want our program to be.

So who is this coach that is going to lead Ole Miss to the SEC championship game? Where is he? Could his last name be Manning? Because before he has a chance to win the SEC championship the NCAA will come calling or he will be the next head coach at Alabama.

This is too much of a conspiracy. Sure, Alabama lost to Ole Miss twice, however they (as per usual) found themselves in the national title contention both years (winning one) while Ole Miss was guaranteed to stupidly slip up at least once and ruin any their chances (Memphis, 4th and 25, 2014 Auburn and onwards).

Despite Ole Miss's recruiting success of what? Two out of five years? Alabama always reeled in better classes. As for this being a ploy by Alabama to snag Hugh Freeze? Hugh Freeze's teams won in spite of his on-field coaching, and his fatherly Baptist preacher recruiting appeal has obviously taken a hit from the scandal (if Alabama wanted him for recruiting purposes, they probably wouldn't sabatoge his primary draw). And let's be honest, with 2013 and 2016 being an exception, Feeze's recruiting success was rather ho-hum.

In reality, Ole Miss played the game like every other school, probably to a lesser extent in most cases. However, due to nepotism, incompetence, and inexperience, they were very sloppy. The stars aligned in 2013 with those four kids, Hugh Freeze essentially invited the NCAA to anally probe his program because he felt personally insulted when accused of cheating. The NCAA gleefully obliged.

Add some useful idiots to the equation (Mullen, Robertson, Lewis), and the sloppy staff of Ole Miss, and naivety of "Exemplery Cooperation", and you have the current situation.

Here's my conspiracy.

Matt Luke called the escort services from Hugh's phone to set Freeze up. He knew if Freeze was fired, with the recent turnover on the football staff, he would be the interim coach and with his ties in the local community, he could pressure Bjork into naming him as the head coach.

8 wins isn't mediocrity if you're only expected to win 6 haha. Hell, the 7 wins Freeze got his first year were huge because we expected to win 4. 9 wins while dealing with football jail is a completely unrealistic expectation for any Ole Miss football coach, which is different than accepting mediocrity

8 wins gets you a Music City Bowl or Belk Bowl appearance and 4-5th place finish in the West. Sounds pretty damn mediocre to me

Not in 2018 it doesn't, thanks to exemplary cooperation

And we've only won more than 8 games 8 times since 1970. Finishing above 4th in the West is almost always a pretty ok year for us. It would probably mean we have a strong shot of finishing the year ranked in the top 25, and winning more than 8 games immediately makes it one of the best seasons Ole Miss has had since Vaught retired the first time in 1970. Only 3 coaches total (Billy Kinard in '71, Cutcliffe in '03, and Freeze in '15, each only once) have won 10 games since Vaught. Nutt and Brewer got to 9 twice, and Freeze did it once. Hell, since 1970, we've finished with exactly 8 five times. In the past 48 seasons, we've only gotten to 8+ thirteen times. Nearly 75% of the seasons we've had since 1970 have had 7 or fewer wins.

We both have to be better than ourselves and have to get the hell off probation before we can start to have the same expectations as like Auburn or LSU, especially considering our highs haven't been nearly as high, and our lows have been lower

I like my theory more. Considering Alabama and state are both out recruiting us in Mississippi.

And Matt Luke isn't smart enough to game plan a move like that. According to most of you. I find it much more believable that Bama and Mullen screwed us over and the NCAA will hide any involvement to cover their asses.

Unless the Rebels Rags lawsuit can uncover communications between the league office, Mullen and the NCAA.

No matter who Ole Miss hires there is no snow ball's chance in hell Ole Miss will win an SEC title.

Y’all seem to hate Matt Luke more than you like Ole Miss football. I want a new coach after this season as well, but to hope we win 0 games, makes y’all pretty selfish fans imo. Matt Luke is our coach wether or not we like it. I hope we do well this year, or at least pull an upset or two.

Can we hire Freeze back? I heard he paid his sin debt via Twitter.

For wanting more than the standard 6-8 every year? I think it's selfish to tell your fans to give money to support a program that won't win any championships with the current staff.

He shouldn't be. If we would have revolted like Tennessee did then he wouldn't be. But our fanbase is largely made up of assholes who just want an excuse to go to The Grove on Saturdays then go to one half of the football games then joke about how terrible we are.
