What good season?

If Ole Miss went 4-8 or worse last season, no amount of square banners would convince Bjork to hire Matt Luke. But he went 6-6, given the circumstances, and we can argue that the team went 6-6 in spite of him. Not to mention that you had certain media members carrying water for him by posting pre-game (or was it post-game?) passionate locker room speeches to bolster his support.

If Luke had won 2/3 between Cal, aTm, and Arkansas, he'd have been a darkhorse for coach of the year. Instead, he bungled all three away, as first year head coaches are wont to do. Still, I think it's messed up to shite on a guy constantly even as he's exceeded a lot of expectations. I'd hope we have a new coach, a real coach, by 2020 or 2021, but the Luke years were lost the second Hugh Freeze got caught with his proverbial pants down, and the program was going to suck relatively regardless of who's in charge. When you get in trouble with the football police, your punishment is that you suck for a while. It's happened at much stronger programs than Ole Miss, and now it's happening at Ole Miss. USC, Miami, Bama, all much more prestigious programs than Ole Miss, all sucked a bag of gorilla dicks for a bit while trifling with the NCAA

Agreed. Ole Miss is/was going to suck for a while regardless of who the head coach is due to the NCAA cloud. But even if that wasn't the case, it would still be a toss-up between Alabama/Georgia and potentially Auburn. Even with Ole Miss going full throttle and beating Alabama handily; they would find some way to lose out, and unfortunately unlike Alabama, they wouldn't be able to backdoor into the playoffs by the virtue of their name.

Luke is in the scoreboard business, if he does well, then good. However, what Henry and I are both worried about is that Ole Miss will simply settle back into being a safe subpar football program that beats Ms State the majority of time and provides some self deprecating entertainment on the weekends; when Ole Miss should constantly be attempting to elevate its program even if the process requires cheating (and precedence set by every other successful program says that it does).
