No, the reason I called y’all selfish, is because you and Reb Land Shark siad y’all want us to go 0-12 just for the sake of firing Matt Luke.

I think all of us true fans would like to see us win more than 6-8 games a season, that has nothing to do with why I called you guys selfish. Wishing us to win 0 games is dumb no matter how much you hate Luke.
I get where you’re coming from, wanting Luke gone, and wanting not to settle for mediocrity, but did you really think we were going to hire some huge name coach, heading into two bowl ban seasons, and everything else our ex coaches were going through? Matt Luke is probably just a temporary bandaid. We’ll hire someone better after all the mess is behind us.

You have no evidence Luke will suck. You have an opinion. Who do you want instead of Luke? I bet Urban Meyer or Dan Mullen... Maybe a washed up Les Miles. (even LSU fans didn't like him). 2010 LSU-Tennessee sums up his time at LSU.

If you don't think Les Miles was an infinitely better option than Luke, you're delusional.

My evidence that Luke sucks is he got beat by 60 by Bama, lost to Cal with a vastly superior team and blew one of the largest leads ever against Arkansas at home! And he almost fricked up and gave the Egg Bowl away.

NCAA wouldn’t allow it. He’ll be on Sabans staff soon.

I don’t think Miles would’ve taken the job at the time given what our program was taking on. I’d love for Les Miles to be our coach after we’re in the clear. I think we could find a better on field coach then Les but his name alone would bring in better recruits. Would you still want him after this year?

I think one of the interesting things that hiring a new coach would have likely resulted in would be the complete overhaul of the coaching staff (granted this could have gone horribly).

It does seems like there are a lot of people on this football staff who likely wouldn't have jobs (or at least as high-paying jobs) at any other D-I Power 5 school; but they're entrenched here collecting large paychecks (especially by Mississippi standards) and simply are either doing just enough to fly under the radar or barely anything at all. They don't have to worry about losing their jobs or being replaced and especially so with Matt Luke as the new head coach.

One issue that many haven't brought up is the fact that Ole Miss lost out on their share of 8 million dollars last year for not going bowling. They will also lose out again this season on their share of sec money. Unless of course a miracle occurs.

There were some hiring decision based upon not having these additional funds for the athletic department.

So for about 50,000 in impermissible benefits we lost $16 million. Until that money is coming in again there will be no big name hires.

Let's be real.

Without Luke their would have been a mass exodus of players.
He is recruiting in the top 25 while the program is under probation.
He was able to finish with a better record last season than Hugh Freeze finished with the previous season.
The fact he was able to inspire the team to keep playing under adverse circumstances shows that the players are vested in his personality.
Any coach at Ole Miss that beats a ranked state team gets another season.
If he can pull out 2 more non losing seasons before being replaced by a "big name" coach, he will have done his part to save Ole Miss' football program.

All of these things will make Ole Miss more of a destination spot for a "big name" coach more than going 0-12 and getting stuck with another up and coming coach.

So, I'm hoping Luke gets us out of the woods and wins as many as he can. This will do more to bring in a quality head coach than going 0-12. Nobody is going to take over a dumpster fire.

Wishing we go 0-12 is just wrong. This isn't the NFL or NBA draft. It won't improve our odds of getting better players or a better coach.

We finished 31 last year and you are delusional if you think we stay in the top 25. We will lose our top recruit to baseball, and we are only top 25 because we have so many commits. That will change. Three straight recruiting years in the bottom of the SEC will set us back in a big way and make it harder to find a quality new coach.

We will always get an up and coming coach if we want to succeed. Kirby wouldn't have come here and I dont want Pruitt.

So he out recruited 90 other schools. Were any of those schools on probation?

The last time Ole Miss was put on probation we were fielding teams with walk-ons.

Besides, he's still having to deal with scholarship reductions due to the penalties;

You can dislike Luke all you want, but to ever say you hope an Ole Miss team to go without winning a game is just wrong...period.

If it makes all the dipshits who wanted him hired at any point feel like idiots, I'm good with it.

Probably the most underwhelming hire that I can remember in a long time, maybe ever

Remember when it was announced that an outside search firm, Turnkey, was hired to spearhead an extensive national coaching hire search.

But then Ole Miss beat Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.

Lol.

And fricksticks like AJ Brown and Greg Little went to Bjork and said they would transfer if Luke wasn't hired.

frick them. We should have sent them packing.

Henry, if we lost AJ Brown and Greg Little because we didn't hire Matt Luke then this whole 2018 season would be lost; we probably wouldn't even make a bow- .... Oh, wait.

Honestly, I think it has less to do with players threatening to move and more-so to do with well-entrenched boosters threatening to withhold their donations.

Matt Luke and his family are well-liked and have fostered strong relationships in the Oxford/Ole Miss community (and nothing is wrong with that, he seems like a nice guy) and he was able to gin up enough support with local boosters to pressure the administration to give him the job, conditioned on a good season. Hence why you would see "Matt Luke is my head coach." banners hanging on buildings in the square.

Also, with Matt Luke as head coach, many boosters' access to the program was no longer threatened. McCready described boosters going to the Turner Center or eating with the players is laughably disturbing; but this is how it is. Ole Miss is a country club to the detriment of the football program.
