Thought we could dive into our schedule a bit while we sit in preseason purgatory. I wasn't the biggest optimist for this year but our schedule sets up nicely. Georgia plays Auburn the week before us. Oklahoma plays South Carolina and Texas before us. When we will need a break we will play a South Carolina team that just faced LSU, Oklahoma and Bama in that order. If we can beat LSU and not stumble we should be in great position to make the playoffs. Getting LSU at home should help a lot. Austin will have 4 games to grow up in and hopefully can learn a lot playing Arkansas and Kentucky.

This place is dead. Football kicks off basically four weeks from today. What's the word from summer camp? Any position insights or interesting gossip?

We will be similarly talented as the 2023 team. The offense may be able to maintain its production but the defense will definitely see a drop off. We don’t have the dudes to beat UGA in Athens I don’t think. We go as Austin Simmons goes. If he’s phenomenal we could win 10-11 games. If he’s just ok, 8-10. If he’s not very good and struggles, we will be limping to 8 wins

With so many new faces, it's hard to figure out what we'll be this season. But I agree - our defense will have a drop off. Our run game needs to get back on track this season to take pressure off of Simmons and allow him to grow. If we shite the bed in the running game this season again, putting everyone on a new starting QB's shoulders is just too much to ask.

I'm excited about the offense, but very concerned about the defensive backfield. Our front 7 will take a step back, it would have to after losing 4 NFL defensive lineman and an NFL linebacker. Losing Trey Amos might actually be our biggest loss from last year. He's the first shut down corner we have had in a long time and I'm not sure we have anyone close to being able to replace that.

What do you want from us? Pete stopped posting. We’ve never been insiders apart from him.

Speak for yourself. I worked in the athletic department for 4 years.

It was a great first two years and an awful last two years. I had to experience the entire Houston Nutt ordeal first hand.

Oh yeah! That's right. You were the fluffer for the defensive lineman. Keep them standing strong, bro!

I remember the first time I heard about them handing out individual dominos pizzas to players after practice. It was before 2010 or 2011. I knew shite was about to go south fast then

Hey a 110 pizzas a night for two weeks did wonders for the local economy.

I posted on the Rant how nobody is really talking about the season. It's not just us. The board is not as lively as it usually is right before the season. Its weird and I can't place my finger on exactly why.

As for Ole Miss, we have a lot of unknowns but I find that the coaching staff seems pretty confident. I am concerned about them installing a new offense but that is a good sign too. A lot of coaches will force players to run an offense that they aren't good at. When the coach changes an offense to match the players, that's what a good coach should do, but it still makes me nervous.

Sounds like Luke Hasz may only miss the first few weeks rather than the entire season.

I can tell you why I’m not excited. His name rhymes with Charlie Weis, Jr.

Well, I meant all teams, not just Ole Miss. I don't know if the rant is dying or what but the Auburn and State fans have almost completely vanished. There weren't always a lot of Georgia fans on the site to begin with but even they are quieter than usual. Bama fans are silent. I think they quit thumping their chests for a while. It's just all so quiet this preseason.
