3* TE Dillon Hipp just committed. Chose us over Baylor, TCU, and Arizona State. From Arizona.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but we sure better coach all these 3 Stars up or we are gonna be a perpetual 6 win team at best with a $9 mill head coach.

Don’t worry.. Kiffin will be sure to tell us we aren’t invested enough and that’s why we are getting 3 stars constantly .

The cycle continues round and round .

He won 10 games and went to the Sugar bowl his second year in 2021. The Matt Luke talent he inherited? '17 no. 39 class, '18 no. 27 class; '19 no. 22 class; '20 no. 46 class. I feel sorry for all of you that hate the coach. We would obviously be better off if he had left for Auburn.

Nobody hates him man. But it’s understandable that everyone has a bad taste left in their mouth with how last year ended. On top of that, we have proven that with our resources, we can recruit top 10/5 classes. We did it less than a decade ago.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree with HJJ.

No one hates Kiffin. But it’s a bad look to hold your program hostage to negotiate a raise (when you were already the 11th highest paid coach in college football) while your team freefalls and loses to your three biggest rivals (two in blowout fashion) to close the season.

He won’t get the benefit of the doubt from this Rebel next time. I am not the only one who feels this way.

But here’s the thing: if we have a great year in 2023, all will be forgiven, and possibly even forgotten.

On the contrary, I'm a fan of Kiffin. I'm glad we've got him, but to state the obvious again, last season's end was tough to stomach for many reasons. Our recruiting is OK, but in the neighborhood we live in, its right next to the bottom of the league meaning we better coach em up well or hit that portal and have success doing it. Something that could be quite risky. All of which takes me back to my point about 6 wins being a definite possibility, and the ROI not being very good if that's the case.

I bet more than half of our commits will decommit before signing day and/or transfer before their sophomore season.

Kiffin has recruited well in his time here, including signing a three-star runningback who became the first Reb to lead the conference in rushing in ages. We finished in the top 25 twice in the past three classes and would've finished in the top 25 in 2022 but we signed a very small class.

Another thing to consider is the heady heydays of the Freeze-era signing days died with the transfer portal. It's over.

What he’s doing right now at Auburn is very similar to what he used to do here. I think we can do that again if Kiffin would just be willing to get a little dirty

There is no need to get dirty anymore. It's all legal now.

Exactly. NIL took away our advantage under Freeze, i.e., cheating more than our competitors. And Lane Kiffin is a good return on investment when you look at conference realignment and new television contracts.

Disagree. We just refuse to tap into it because the administration is still being too cautious. If we out paid our competition before, we should still be able to do that.

Plus, Freeze’s advantage wasn’t just money. The guy is likable and relates to kids and parents really well. If that wasn’t the case he would have struggled to recruit at Liberty and Auburn. But the train is still moving.

Also there is still cheating done under the table. The way we were paying before is still technically illegal.

Yes, we had two top 5 recruiting classes under Freeze. One was headlined by the brother of a current player on the roster and one was headlined by a qb whose brother we hired and he turned out to be incredibly overrated. In today's world, there is zero chance we get Robert cause Denzel would have been able to transfer with no penalty and we would not have been able to match what others could pay through NIL for him, Laremy and Treadwell.

Freeze is doing well at Auburn because Auburn has top 10 facilities, has played in multiple national championships in the BCS era and Jimmy Rane has a nice check book at Freeze's disposal. Auburn has had top 10 recruiting classes 8 times since 2010, what he is doing there now isn't anything extraordinary. If you want to praise Freeze for doing things under the table and getting a Sugar Bowl, fine, but remember that Kiffin got to a sugar bowl in his 2nd year without us ending up with a bowl ban to follow.

We have the boosters and the money to sign elite talent. It wasn’t just Denzel that brought Robert here. He had to be paid. As did any other big recruit we signed. So the money is there to get the 5 stars if we want them.

Freeze and his crew did what was necessary to compete at an elite level. The NCAA and their rules mean frick all to me. Sure give us a ban, we will be smarter next time and once the probation is up, we will start everything up again like we were doing before. That’s what we should do. Who gives a shite if the NCAA catches us? It’s better than being perpetually stuck at 6-8 wins on average.

And yes, Kiffin got us to the Sugar Bowl in year 2. That was great. But if you compare the 2015 team to the 2021 team, they had better wins including at Bama and they actually won the Sugar Bowl.

That 2015 team would have beaten the 2021 team by 3 touchdowns at least.

ETA: this is my last post on the subject. I’ll ramble on about the Freeze years and clog up the board and it’s not worth it.

Hot take but we don’t get that first top 5 class without Nutt. Nutt signed Denzil to get Robert. And you’re crazy if you think we’d be the only school to pay Robert. Treadwell came because of both Robert and Nutt signing his high school best friend. Tunsil comes because both of them are coming.

Ironically, they wouldn’t have come had Nutt continued to be the head coach . So both freeze and Nutt share credit for that top 5 class.

It’s till technically off-season. As long as you’re not just repeating the same thing over and over again, it’s fine. The ending of last season sucked the absolute life out of this board.
