Cudos to the students. For the first 3 quarters, the student section was about 85% full. What a great improvement over the past few years.

As for the rest of the crowd, those that showed up... awesome. Those that stayed home, you should be ashamed. You want a good football team? You have to show up. I was really disappointed in the 20k fans that didn't bother coming. All other places I saw, against the same level opponent, had most of their stadiums full.

Get your butts to the GA Tech game in 2 weeks.

It was really bad. Not sure we have had that small of a crowd as a ranked team.

This is the environment that we need:

And VA Tech played Old Dominion.

Not disagreeing with you about VT having a better atmosphere but ODU beat them last season. They would also throttle Mercer.

Sorry my pregnant wife didn’t feel like spending a couple grand and driving 8 hours to see us play Mercer

Ok Lane .

How about we schedule a Power 5 team instead of these Mercer/UT Martin games

Don’t schedule shittey teams and then get mad people don’t come . You can’t have it both ways

I’m not knocking anyone with 3+ hour drives but between Oxford, Tupelo, Memphis we should be able to
Fill 60k not to mention Jackson is an easy day trip for a 1 kickoff.

Instead of blaming the fans, why don’t we blame the school for scheduling shitty opponents and charging an arm and a leg for concessions?

Don’t get me wrong, I love the enter Sandman thing at VA Tech, but there’s a reason you don’t hear that type song on any of the commitment videos or hype videos because it does nothing for about 75 percent of our players. But it apparently does get the crowd juiced which I guess is the only point.

Glad I was able to go! Probably the only home game I’ll go to since I’m in the DC area. Labor Day made it an easier decision.

We've always had games like these on our schedule. You act like it's a new thing. Well, it's not and the inability to fill the stadium on opening day even against lesser competition seems to be unique to our bitchy fans as an SEC team.

Agreed. Left my super pregnant wife at home. Drank, ate, stayed until the end, and still made it back to Madison by 8:30.

Problem is 90% of OM fans live more than 3hrs away. It's labor day weekend. Way more people are going to fit in a weekend at the beach or lake which is much closer than drive 5+ hrs to Oxford to watch a game against Mercer

Opener of dove season too which is a huge deal

Did you see the huge swaths of empty seats at Davis Wade, War Memorial Stadium, etc.?

Sometimes we don’t fill the stadium up even for a big conference game. See Arkansas 2021. But then sometimes, we do.

Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta are all too far away to make it every weekend. 90% of our alumni are picking one game (2 max) to make the trip for. Mercer definitely isn't it.

You can’t schedule Mercer and expect folks to show up. It’s essentially an nfl preseason game.
