Chuck posted that CWJ would coach in the playoff and Nola.com almost immediately posted that CWJ signed a $2 mil per year deal with LSU. Might be time for him to hang it up.

It would be a catastrophic mistake to allow him a full season
Why? It's no different than rolling the dice on any other coordinator.
He was a DC under Saban for 4 years. DC here for 3. So DC in the SEC for 7 years. Part of 1 national title as a DC. Had the #1 rated defense in the country last year. By all accounts had been our lead recruiter his entire time here - which has been well above our historical average.
On paper, he has a resume of a coordinator who typically gets a shot at a power 4 HC job.
Like 99.9% of hires it'll come down to the staff he can assemble.

I'm willing to give him 1 season but we need to be quick on the trigger if the forward momentum starts to die like it did with Luke.

Doesn’t matter. We just need him on paper until about 6 tomorrow.
Y’all say hi to our new WR coach too. Feed him.

Need an OC, on paper, through the final playoff rankings which is still over a week away

Probably not much movement between now and then if you’re top 5 assuming the championship games are chalk

Well we won't be top 5 given we were 7 last week. And absolutely no guarantee of chalk

And we probably won’t have an interim LSU OC by Sunday either so who cares.
Goddamn you people are high strung

Aww poor little Lane. College kids said mean no no words to him. he’s always given it his all, 110% of himself dedicated to this school and fanbase (especially in ‘22 and these last 6 weeks) and this is how he’s treated. He's so misunderstood
Can that guy ever stop whining?

How important in today's age is the head coach really? And before you laugh at that question, truly think about it.
Look at someone like Bill belichick everybody said he was a genius, but as soon as Tom Brady left new england, they sucked, and the buccaneers were great.
Is it not possible to have a lower than average head coach with good assistants surrounding him?
If you have good recruiters on your team, a moderate coach, and you have the players on the field, and you can properly motivate them. Is that not a winning recipe? Even looking at a Nick Saban is he really winning the games and does he really require that much money to do so?

I’ve asked myself that question a million times. We apparently have analysts for our analysts, and it takes an army to run a team. If you’ve got a HC who’s an amazing recruiter and surrounds himself with great people, I think he’ll be successful. The athletes play the game and as long as you put talent in a position to win, they will. I think a large chunk of LK’s value to us specifically was the attention he brought our school and put us in the national spotlight. A decade ago, the bulk of people would see me wearing an Ole Miss shirt and ask what that was (Texas, not North Korea). Now we’re a household name. So he was worth a chunk of money to us, but I don’t think he adds as much value to LSU, and I think they grossly overpaid.

quote:No. It’s not. If you have a “moderate coach” they will have a moderate staff with “moderate” talent.

My dad graduated from Ole Miss back in the '70s when he would apply for jobs people would ask what that was for what Oxford was.
Someone's dead he just started saying he graduated from Oxford and people were really impressed and then he would tell him it's Oxford Mississippi

LSU had the best team in college football with fricking Ed Orgeron roaming the sidelines simply because he was a great recruiter, motivator, and hired solid assistants.

After seeing Napier for 4 years it is important, but there are many competent coaches out there
