Still have no idea how Pete will do as a coach long term, and you have to recruit your own roster every offseason, but this recruiting sets us up really well for the next 3-4 yrs

I have family that went to DSU with Pete and they’re all State fans. My uncle told my dad “I’m telling you it ain’t good for us they’re hiring him. That boy can recruit and we won’t touch anyone he wants with the staff we have right now”
I even kind of scoffed at that but damn if they weren’t right

He's clearly impressed me with his recruiting skills this far - both with this HS class but also keeping the roster together from last year.
I'm confident that he will give us a good defense too - he showed us that he can coach an elite defense in 2024 when given more than 30% of the roster budget. Hopefully we'll now be more evenly spread out and we are consistently a top 20ish defense.
Biggest concern is still just (1) can he handle all the new HC responsibilities he has - this trips up more first time HCs than anything else; and (2) can he bring enough offensive coaching talent to keep us competitive on that side of the ball post Lane and Charlie.

Brohm scares the shite out of me. At least his offense is typically complicated and he's breaking in a brand new QB. Wouldn't be shocked with a low scoring game.
I do like that we hired an OC who is familiar with our offense though. And believe it or not, ECU was one of the 10 or so teams who are faster on offense than we were last year.
Also really like how the OC has been working under a defensive head coach at ECU so it's 100% all been on him to run the offense and figure it out.

Sounds like Caden Moss will be committing to Ohio State tomorrow.
Rumors number is they came over the top at $2mil.

JA trash would pick Ohio State

Obviously want to have him and keep talent in state, but losing a private school LT who's going to have to slide in to guard at the next level isn't the end of the world. Especially at that price.

I agree. Greenwood linebacker picked Michigan today too. I’m shocked anyone from the public school system in the delta can get into Michigan. Those tutors are going to earn every penny

Not surprising. We kicked the tires on him for a while but I'm not sure how high on our board he was.
More of a loss for State than anything.

I figured we must not be on him very hard because he’s rarely come up on any recruiting discussions

Same with an in-state 4* DT who committed to FSU yesterday. Big loss for State but I can 100% confirm he wasn't even on our board.

Like everybody else, I would like to have the Moss kid too, but not for that amount. Some things simply just don't make sense, and this falls squarely in that category.

Apparently Ohio State is telling the kid he'll play Tackle there, whereas Ole Miss (and everyone else) have told him that he'll need to slide inside to guard. Sounds like that could be playing a big factor as well.

Sounds like a portal candidate. Or Ohio state knows that once he’s there they’ll slide him inside and he will just accept it.

Or they will put him on an insane regiment to get his weight down and work on his footwork. If he’s willing to put in the work, more power to him but the vast majority of kids aren’t.

Why are people blaming Shay Hodge? Obviously I want kids coming to ole Miss but think he has an obligation to kids he coaches to focus on what they want and what's best for them. We've won players by being the top bid and lost them for not being the top bid, that's just football today
Posted on 6/26/26 at 9:52 pm to rebsfan10
Shay Hodge doesn’t even coach at JA anymore. So people blaming him are uninformed dipshits
