This afternoon we received a prediction to get 4* LB Jeremiah Culpepper

He's currently on campus on an OV. From GA, but being most heavily recruited by Auburn, Bama, Tennessee, and VT.

Brings us up to 9 4*+ players, which is more than we ever signed under Kiffin (for HS recruiting).

Brings us up to 15 nationally, 6th in the SEC. Of our 13 commits, 9 are "blue chip"

And another... 3* Edge Juelz Batiste has committed.

Rated an 89 on On3/Rivals, so as high of a 3* as possible. 6'5 and 230 so good size. #53 Edge and #11 in the state of Louisiana.

Picked us over reported finalists of Mizzou, Florida State, Nebraska, and Auburn.

I know everyone says HS recruiting doesn’t matter anymore but I love this shite. Last years defense wouldn’t have been worth a frick without highschool recruits.

Our high school signees contributed significantly from the DL, but only made up a fraction of the defensive two-deep.

Here are the players we signed from high school in our two deep on defense for the 2025 season:
- TJ Banks
- Nick Cull
- Kam Franklin
- Zxavian Harris
- Will Echoles
- Suntarine Perkins
- Kamron Beavers
- Jamarious Brown
- DeeJay Holmes, Jr.

I think there's two main trains of thought.

The Lane Kiffin model - only recruit HS kids who can contribute very early as it's not worth investing in HS development since they'll transfer for playing time anyways. Build your team around transfers who are upper classman and have contributed already at the college level.

The UGA / Ohio State model - hit HS hard, develop them, be confident in your culture to get them to stay, and use the portal to fill in roster gaps as needed.

We obviously had great success with the Lane model. Golding appears to be more of the UGA / Ohio State model. I think that model is more likely to lead to sustained success, but obviously need to hit on the HS kids at a high level and feel confident they won't just transfer for it to work.

I think you’re right. To be clear I have no issue with going to the portal to get necessary depth or recruit over a guy. I just see no reason to ignore highschool guys that can contribute especially along the offensive and defensive lines if we have the money to retain them and ability to develop them.

Going after O Line and D Linemen from HS is probably a better strategy. Proven guys get expensive along the lines in the portal. And even highly touted portal guys seem to struggle on the OL.

I don't have a problem with either model. I think you can note the successes of both.

With the money floating around now, not sure how confident I am about getting fired up about commitments. Until they sign their paperwork, I'm skeptical hippo.

Yeah I suspect there will continue to be a ton of movement between now and signing day.

And even the ones we get to campus may well transfer before they do anything of note.

HS recruiting is also important for portal recruiting like finishing second for Lacy. He was already familiar with the school/coaches so it’s easy to move quickly when a guy like that enters the portal. Hoping we can get a guy like Deuce Geralds eventually.
