Darius Rucker. He grew up with my best friend. He might be (former) Hootie and the Blowfish, but when he’s back home, he’s Darius and the hood will let him KNOW if he’s not for real! My late wife really wanted him to sing at our wedding, but he had prior commitments. I don’t know him as well as Chuck does, but he’s always been a good dude around me!

Lots of singer and songwriters from Florence, AL (one of the quad cities that form the Shoals area), but WC Handy (Father of the Blues) is easily the most famous.

Though not an artist himself, Sam Phillips was born and raised in Florence, as well, before going to Memphis and recording the King and many others.

Turnpike Troubadours

One of the best country/Red Dirt/Honky Tonk bands in the land.
They had to shut down from 2018 to 2022 when a founding member
and lead singer Evan Felker went on a three-year drunk.
Felker isolated himself on a ranch as a cowboy , quit sucking on the bottle ,
remarried his wife who had divorced him and the band cranked up
again.
love the lyrics in this one

You sure about that? Unless you've lived in GA too.

Levon Helm

Levon is almost a thread ender.

Hard to choose but I will go with the hardest working man in show business, the Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown. Yes I'm aware he was born in SC, but he's from Georgia.

I'll throw in Ray Charles to boot.

Well if you are claiming James Brown, then Florida is claiming Ray Charles.

You are correct. I was thinking of her and Eudora Welty in the same thought.
