oh yea, poor guy!

seriously though, it's on the docket in CA I believe in the next few months. Only 54% voted against it last time. I think it's safe to say that'll shift.

It's already pretty much legal in CA. My gay cousin that lives in Malibu says people smoke in public all the time and the cops don't do a thing.

Oddly enough, the growers in Northern California (Mendocino, Humboldt, et al) are very much against legalization. There would be a lot more regulation, taxation, and lower profits if the quasi-legal status was changed.

It'll pass. It's too engrained in the culture out there.

One beer doesn't intoxicate a grown man. One joint does. A man who gets drunk in front of his kids every night - well that IS a big deal.

A joint is kind of irrelevant in this discussion.

A lot of professional people smoke part of a bowl, or even one hitters throughout the night. A couple hits, and then come back to it a couple hours.

Of course it varies from person to person. It's just unfortunate that the "reefer madness" "gateway drug" bullshite, has spawned an equally untrue reactionary narrative - the "totally harmless" one.

I agree with this.

I think this type of dualistic thinking runs deep through everything, to the point that it's an intellectual epidemic.

Most people think capitalism is the ultimate good because they believe socialism is the ultimate bad. (Won't get into the fact Sovietism was actually authoritarian communism, which is far from libertarian socialism).

DGAF.

I don't smoke so I can't really comment regarding those who do, regardless of what it is exactly they're smoking.

Well my advice to anyone looking for a job would be to not smoke pot. Don't smoke, don't fail a test.

And you definitely have a choice. If you tell a potential employer you like to get high, then you might as well show up to your interview with your step brother and say things like "we're here to frick shite up."

I wouldn't let the fact that someone smokes pot impact my decision in hiring, if they're otherwise qualified for the job and interview well.

That's great.

But it's just a good idea to not project that part of your life in an interview for most jobs.

It's definitely a non issue for most of CA. Not for everyone, but for most. Myself and three friends got rolled up on by a cop and park ranger for blowing down at our neighborhood park the first semester of college. The truck had heavy tint so we didn't think about being cognizant of our surroundings. The next thing I know there's a cop knocking on the window with his flash light asking the driver to roll down his window. We rolled the window down and naturally all the smoke funneled out right in his face. One of the bigger "Oh, fuuuuck" moments in my life. He kinda grinned and asked if we knew what we were doing was illegal. We were up front with him. Told him we were smoking before heading to class, had a bong in the back seat, and a little less than an oz. in the glove compartment. He asked if we had our Cannabis cards, which everyone did, except for me.. of course. He ended up telling us that he appreciated our honesty and that we would only be receiving a warning, but that we would have to move the vehicle across the street and away from the park. Then he looked at me and said you might want to follow suit with your compadres and get your club card incase of a situation like this. Then said have a nice day and don't let me catch you back here doing that again. Gave him a yes sir and went about our way. What we were doing was still illegal ftr, but he said he had bigger issues to deal with than 4 18 year old smoking pot a block from their house.

In East Tennessee, we would have been dragged out of the truck and taken to jail. Just a completely different mind set between the two states.

To the OP: I don't see a problem with it as long as you're holding down a career and providing for your family.

I will never ever approach a place for a job interview unless my piss is clean.

They're nowhere near as medicated as I am.
BTW I don't drink alcohol (medical condition)

No worse than, and maybe even preferable to 'taking the edge off' with alcohol. Responsibly of course.
Shouldn't be illegal.
