If I didn't have kids:

Alaska
Colorado
NYC

Because I have kids:

NC
Flagstaff AZ
Louisiana

I know you said states, but I wouldn't move to any of AZ except flagstaff, and I wouldn't move to any of NY other than NYC. But I would move to those towns.

If college football wasn't a factor, I'd probably put California or Hawaii way up there.

But, since anywhere I went would come with the #1 priority of being not too far from Athens and my family/friends, I'd probably go some combo of SC/AL/FL/NC.

I don't choose states. I choose cities.

Chicago

1. Colorado
2. Florida
3. North Carolina

This is weird because while those are the 3 states I'd want to move to, only Denver is a top 3 city id want to move that is in those states.
Such as:
1. Boston
2. Denver
3. Nashville/ Austin

1) Gulf side of Florida. Preferably Tampa/St Pete area. Have friends there we visit every year. The fishing is awesome and waterfront homes are surprisingly affordable.

2) Western NC/North Georgia. Beautiful land, lots of trout fishing opportunities, and enough snow in winter to be pretty but not so much you have to tunnel out of the house.

3) Charleston, SC area. Lots of history, but it is a distant third compared to my 1 & 2.

1. North Florida. (saltwater fishing I love and beach and no state income tax, not that far still from Auburn).

2. Louisiana. (Food, sports, hunting/fishing)

3. Northern California (weather, pretty much errthing.)
